Take a hack saw blade and place it as close to the elbow and saw it off. It looks like a very tight space. I hope that helps.

As long as it has a straight smooth end you can connect it to then you are all set. It should work just fine.

Can this be used to connect a non threaded coppet pipe to a tub spout (like IPS Moen)?

Asked by Ken April 26, 2018

Answers

Yes, if the spout has the same size threads and it does not have additional plastic components inside as that will hinder the adapter from fitting into the spout. If the threads in the spout are plastic, be careful not to cross thread as brass can easily cut plastic threads.

I had a PEX line break in a area impossible to get to without de constructing a cabinet, or so I thought. A friend told me about SharkBite and it took less than twenty minutes to repair the system and return water to the house. Easily installed and leak free for the past month with no real reason to expect a leak in the future.

Used these for installing a replacement whole-house water filter. The old filter was about 30 years old & needed to be replaced. Compression fittings would not stop leaking so I used the SharkBites and what an amazing difference! After applying sufficient Teflon tape to the Bites, they screwed in nice & snug. Then it was securely inserting the pipes on either side. Done! No leaks!

I’ve used these fittings on ¾” PEX and ¾” copper and they are fast, easy, and tight. In this case, I have 1” PE well line connecting through a brass barb fitting to a 1” FPT check valve upstream of the well tank. At 25 years old, the PE pipe would not come off the brass barb fitting… thus I had to cut the PE pipe and replace the end. I wrongly bought a 2ft section of PE pipe at HD with a plastic barb fitting, and then “fit” the PE pipe into this sharkbite. It was a tiny bit too big. It was hard to start, even using the sharkbite tool to prepare the end, and I had to tap it in with a rubber mallet. It was leak-tight but I’m not sure it will ever come apart. My bad. HD sells 5 or 10 ft lengths of Sharkbite PERT (high temp PE) pipe. In this situation, I should have mated a length of PERT to the plastic barb fitting on the old well line, then slipped the PERT into the Sharkbite. This would have mated and disconnected easily. Unfortunately the HD employee I asked about this had no real idea, and just said it might not fit.

I've done a number of plumbing projects over the years. This new home has PEX plumbing - not my usual project. I planned to move the water softener. After draining the system, I simply cut the pipe and snapped in the shark bites. The next move was to move the softener, cut the same PEX pipe, snap the pipes into the shark bites. No messy soldering, no messy very messy priming and gluing, just a very quick, no mess, and easy NO LEAK installation. Literally less than an hour, start to finish. Shark bites are the very best solution.

Easy to use, great connection to all types of pipes, copper, cpvc, and/or pex. Be sure not to have to much stress on your pipes or it will leak, but you can remove change your pipe(shortening or make longer).

I used this fitting recently as part of a new plumbing assembly in my laundry room. Specifically, I secured two of these with teflon tape to a new laundry sink faucet so I could connect it to PEX piping. I had no leaks. Instructions say the tubing should go in an inch, I found they go in about .8" or so. Although a bit pricey, these fittings and PEX made easy work. It took me an hour and a half to complete the job. From the photo, all I had left was securing the drop ear elbows for the clothes washer valves.
