Answer

Southwire does not make connectors however there are a number of other manufacturers that do. I do not know of specific connectors for this application, however it would be best to consult a connector manufacturer.

Can this wire handle 120 A/C volts?

Asked by Jim April 7, 2021

Answer

Yes, the 250 ft. 12/2 Black Stranded CU Low-Voltage Landscape Lighting Wire is rated for 150 volts.

Accidentally stapled through this wire when securing. Removed thise staples and lights still work. Any concerns for safety, volrage drop, etc?

Asked by Matt March 25, 2021
1
Answer

If this product is used for 24V lighting (the normal application for this product), a staple puncture by itself should not lead to an unsafe situation. It will not impact voltage drop or conductor ampacity, unless any of the copper strands were severed by the staple. If the wire is located outdoors, water will likely get to the copper conductor and lead to corrosion and failure of the circuit within the next few years. The wire insulation could be repaired with a combination of mastic electrical tape and PVC electrical tape. 3M makes these products and has information online about proper installation.

I think if you have a small setup that is rated for 12v, you could. I did and it was fine.

can this wore be encased in concrete steps

I would not recommend this. I would place a PVC sleeve first and then run the cable through the sleeve. This will protect the wire and allow you to replace it later if you need to.

Great low voltage wire. I've used this in past outdoor applications with no issues. 2 years ago I used this wire for the front and both sides of my home and there hasn't been 1 issue, even where I buried the wired in the yard. Holding up great. This year I decided to finish my property by having low voltage light in my back yard, and it turned out great. I expect the same long lasting results. I have 3 very long sections where the wire was buried in the yard to reach flower beds. Lights turn on every night and look great!

It first arrived as an anonymous package left by the door. Opening the flaps revealed the dark spiral of wire, it's dull black sheath standing in contrast to the every day brown of the packaging. In the laboratory, stripping the ends of the cable freed the bright, twisted strands. The tiny strings of copper glistened in the warm T8 LED glow of the overhead lamps. I felt an immediate connection - was required the the low voltage transformer. A suitable yard lamp was acquired; the teeth of is connecting jaws sank effortlessly into the soft flesh of the cable. Connections were completed at the transformer, screws tightened securely. With the firm confidence of a technician, I switched the power on. Success! The electrons furiously crowded the dark cased highway of copper and instantly converted their exuberance into the lamp's soft glow. Soon other lamps would bite into that dark highway of energy and begin their service as shining sentinels stationed along the winding flower bed.
