Square D by Schneider Electric QO 20 Amp 1-pole Dual Function Circuit Breakers is a space and labor saving device, engineered to meet prevailing NEC requirements. This device combine two critical technologies; Combination Arc Fault protection and Ground Fault protection (class A), in a single, easy-to-install device. The NEC now requires both Combination Arc Fault and Ground Fault protection on all 1-Pole, 15 Amp and 20 Amp kitchen and laundry circuits. Prior to the release of this new device, a contractor or homeowner's only choice would have been to use a Combination Arc Fault circuit breaker in conjunction with an expensive, bulky Ground Fault receptacle. The new Dual Function circuit breakers help reduce cost and eliminate the hassle of using two separate devices to provide this essential protection. It's a win for contractors and homeowners alike. Like all Square D CAFI Circuit Breakers, it is integrated with time saver Diagnostics, a unique feature that provides additional circuit information and minimizes troubleshooting at the touch of a button.

Questions & Answers

Can I use this breaker with a HOMC12UC panel?

Asked by: Melzar78
My understanding is that the breakers for a QO and Homeline panel are NOT interchangeable. They offer the one you need https://www.homedepot.com/p/Square-D-Homeline-20-Amp-Single-Pole-Dual-Function-CAFCI-and-GFCI-Circuit-Breaker-HOM120DFC/204844652?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-206474150-_-204844652-_-N

I have a 20A circuit that just has a simple circuit breaker now. On this circuit are six outlets including several that already have the GFCI outlets. If I install this Dual Function (CAFCI and GFCI) Circuit Breaker, will I have to go and remove the existing GFCI outlets to prevent some kind of interaction? Or would the duplication of GFCI protections simply be a belt and suspenders redundancy? Thank you
Asked by: CloverMike
No need to remove the GFCI receptacles in the wall. But, when those GFCI receptacles do fail you can replace with just a normal receptacle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems Good This is a new product, not even mentioned in most books on wiring. I decided to take a chance on it because it was just what I was looking for -- ground fault protection as well as arc fault protection. It saved me from having to install ground fault receptacles, and it would also told tell me if I had a loose connection or had wired something wrong. As it turned out, all my connections were good but now I have peace of mind about it. The product also has diagnostics so you can tell what kind of a fault you have. My breakers have been in use for two months now and they are working great. I have tested them during this time and they are doing what they are supposed to do. The price bothered me but it saved me the cost of GFI receptacles so maybe it wasn't so bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable. Had my entire home rewired by a professional, licensed electrical contractor. New breaker box too. They did a GREAT job. Inspectors came in... passed everything with flying colors. Couldn't stop commenting on the quality of work that was done. Once completed, however, these installed breakers will trip from time to time for no apparent reason. In a bad week, I'd have to reset up to a dozen of them. A good week? Maybe 4-6. My electrician was at a loss. We contacted the manufacturer and they told my electrician that they were 'aware' of the sensitivity issues with these breakers. They claim they'll trip if the utility company is doing any work on lines in the area, that any surges the work creates can cause them to trip. The company (Schneider Electric) claims they're working on a solution for existing breakers and to implement that in future manufacturing. I guess I have to live with this? Today a breaker tied to one of my computers tripped and I lost a days worth of work. Completely unacceptable. My electrician is offering to replace them all with more reliable breakers, but he shouldn't have to foot the bill or invest more time in this issue. These breakers are totally unreliable, and frustrating to say the least. If you like to have to constantly reset your breakers, by all means, buy these. But if you want something reliable, look elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Meets new code requirement These breakers meet the new code requirement that requires both GFCI and AFCI circuit protection in various places in your home. They were easy to install. The Home Depot price was the best around. Wish the item was available at my local store, but they do not. Had to order on line and wait to install.
