can I use this pump for pumping fuel oil into a bigger tank?

It would need a nitrile impeller not a neoprene impeller to pump oils. I had an old transfer pump I use to pump out engine oil, I changed to a nitrile impeller bought from allied express. These size and type pumps all use the same impeller that I have seen. $5 for nitrile impeller.

I think it would work ok to pump out your rain barrel. I expect the water would be clean enough that you may not need a filter. Just don't let the suction line get into any dirt that has settled on the bottom of your tank. The pump will only make about 15 lbs of pressure so if the discharge hose is very long you may not have a lot of pressure to spray the water in your garden it maybe more of a sprinkler. I wouldn't be afraid to use it for that purpose. If it is too much of a load on the pump motor it will get hot, pay attention to this and don't let it get hot it will work fine.

Check the specifications on the Home Depot website. It is suitable for outdoor use as long as you do not expose the motor to water. Yes, can not use it to pump slightly muddy water, but NOT mud, however I recommend putting a filter on the suction side of the pump otherwise the sand will wear out the impeller.

Will this pump fail if used to transfer clothes washing machine liquid with soap?

Asked by Douglas October 26, 2018

Answers

I have used this pump to drain water heaters, some water has been hot and I have also pumped out water beds. Have had no problems with pump failure. I don't think the soapy water will be an issue just be sure you don't pick up any clothing in your suction hose. It sounds to me like your washing machines water pump has failed for some reason. My experience with washers not pumping the water out was due to nylon stockings stuck in the pump.

Easy to use. No on/off switch, plug it in and off it goes. Comes with a hose which was a nice benefit. Better than manually pumping. Well made. I wasn’t sure if it was going to work with a coiled hose, it does. Definitely met my expectations.
