Q:Whats the difference between the Pleasant Hearth Infinity 36 in. Galvanized Fire Ring Model # OFW815FR Verse 36in Galv round fire ring?

A:  It doesn't look like the Pleasant Hearth version has a rolled rim, judging from the photograph. There is no mention of it in the description. That's what I was looking for. I don't see a way to compare the thickness of the steel between the two. This one is very strong and can be stacked two high by overlapping the non-rolled edges and using a longer bolt. I am very happy with it. I'm using it for a raised garden bed.

A:  The main difference is the rounded top lip of this product. BIG difference in terms of how sturdy it makes the ring, much harder to dent or bend the top of it.

A:  Yes.. I was wondering that too?? I bought the 59.00 one and it looks like the ring isn't rolled at the top? But the $54.00 one is less money, but has a rolled edge. Which one is better? I love it when people post pictures of the real item. That really helps!

A:  The third guy that said he got zinc poisoning from welding galvanized pipe - keep in mind - that welding equipment is hot enough to MELT metal and WELD it together - I don't think any proper campfire is going to get up to those temperatures. Also - there are other compounds in the pipes he was welding, as well as the equipment he was using - so I think it's comparing apples and oranges in regards to the materials and TEMPERATURES!

A:  I have seen the answer "Crow" provided, word of word on other products on other sites. If the assertion is that it poses no health threat, I suggest the manufacture or retailer provide the Safety Data Sheet for the coating. I would expect that any of the electro plating or hot dipping will be rated at some level as a carcinogen if burned or made airborne. .

A:  I expect it's OK still since cows have been drinking water from galvanized water troughs for a long time. Perhaps someone from that industry could answer your question definitively.

A:  Yes it is possible to get galvanized poisoning should you breath in the fumes when the galvanized coating is burnt off. I have had this happen to me while welding galvanized culvert pipe this is not a good feeling. This fire ring has the same coating as the galvanize culvert pipe.

A:  While galvanized metal does have a zinc coating, zinc is an essential micro-nutrient, not a cumulatively toxic metal like cadmium, mercury, or lead. Most things are a matter of degree. It is not considered a good idea to eat food off of a zinc surface for example. But using the Fire Ring as intended (outdoors for a camp fire, not a grill) should pose no issues whatsoever.
