A: It has 2 threaded caps on the end of the barrel. I'd suggest having your downspout shortened so it feeds into a funnel in one of the capped openings.

A: Depending on the size (diameter) of the downspout, you will most likely need to cut a hole in the top with a jig saw or hacksaw.
Otherwise make an adapter from the downspout to fit the fill holes (white tops) that already exist.

A: Because the only openings are 2", you would have to divert water from your downspout to a smaller inlet, or cut a larger hole for the downspout. My eventual solution was to put the barrel on its side and make a stand for it, cut a downspout hole in the top side and put a spigot in the opening with the plug that is threaded for standard pipe.

A: I don't know the cap size and thread pitch, but it does come with 2 openings with 2 caps. I'd suggest you get the manufacturer's name from the Home Depot site, then contact the manufacturer for the information you need (thread pitch, etc). I'm sure they'll be happy to provide this for you! I hope this helps!

A: As a basic consumer, I could not tell you the exact answer to that question. I can say that these barrels are thick enough to withstand considerable pressure. Cutting a drain hole for a spout would compromise the integrity of the walls. A pump attached through the provided capped holes on top would be the best route. I hope this answers your question.

Answer This Question
A: Should be no problem as long as you open both plugs so as not to create a vacuum when the washer sucks all the water out. Depending on how much washing you need to do and how fast the washer will pull water from the barrel, you may have to stop the washer and refill the barrel before commencing.

A: I would also add that you need to use tablets such as chlorine to make sure that it?s safe to drink in emergency. There a warning included about consuming contaminated water safety reasons, however I think the plastic is generally safe.
