A: Hi,
Yes the panel is sanded well before we ship. I would only recommend a light sanding before applying anything. Thanks.

Q:Is this simular to Baltic Birch? I thought I read this has nine layers or veeners?

Answer This Question
A: Hello,
No, Baltic Birch is different than the 1/2'' PureBond Birch. Baltic Birch is produced in Eastern Europe and will have more inner plies. Depending on the grade of the Baltic Birch – you may have football shaped wood patches in one side of the panel. Baltic Birch typically comes in 5 ft. x 5 ft. panels. If you have more questions you can reach me at alec.neugent@cfpwood.com.

Q:Getting ready to do kitchen cabinet doors. Is this thickness suitable for 3/8" hinge inserts and possibly rounded outer edge?

Answer This Question
A: Hello,
I would recommend buying a small 1/2" 2ft. x 2 ft. Birch panel online at Home Depot. You can copy and paste this product id in the search to find it - 311925833. This should work fine for a 3/8" inset hinge. With the sample you can determine if it is best thickness for the hinge type you would like to use.

Q:Why did the thickness change from 11/32" (0.468") to 0.45"? This is literally 10% less than nominal. The inconsistency also means that I cut 4 sheets worth of parts that now no longer fit together...sucks to pay a premium for cut corners and thin sheets..

A: I have noticed HD lumber is Ok for rough work but not good enough for finish work. I learned the hard way as you just did. Finish or detail work I buy from L's. This was probably sanded both sides and that cut it down a bit. I also have had their plywood become separated once you cut it, small pcs. I re-glue, large I return.

Q:Is this strong enough for dining chair base (middle will be cut out and replaced with strapping) or should I use structural plywood?

Answer This Question
A: It should be strong enough. Just make sure the way the strapping is fastened doesn’t weaken the wood, and that there is enough material after cutting to maintain its strength.

A: Hello,
No, our panels do not off gas. I would assume you are referring to formaldehyde. Our panels are constructed using no-added urea formaldehyde core and lamination adhesives.

A: Todd,
Birch plywood only has a veneer of birch on the finished sides. I would expect that the core of the plywood would have coniferous wood in the ply layers and would not use it in your situation.
