Q:Would this work for what I need?

Answer This Question

A:  I suggest you buy a small piece of this product and try it to see if it meets your requirements before doing the entire project that way, it may work, it might not. I used it for cabinet doors and it worked well with a light stain. But, I used it to skin a door, tung oiled it, and on my first fine sanding, sanded through the very thin top layer, made a mess. Ended up painting the door. So yes, might work wonderfully, but be cautious with sanding and try your stain first on a small piece is my advice.

A:  I have used this both painted and stained and it worked well in both cases, but if you are staining make sure you used a sealer that is compatible with the stain you use before you apply the stain otherwise it will result in blotches of light and dark.

by|Nov 20, 2019

A:  yes this will work fine for that purpose.

    by|Nov 17, 2019

A:  Hello, Yes, this will work as an overlay on the MDF panel.

    by|Nov 18, 2019

A:  If you are building a cabinet you should consider a veneer. If exposed to water you need to re-think the project. Depending on the look, because it will not sand good, I would pick a paint that would imitate a stain.

Q:Using full sheets for paneling over drywall, how much shrink and expansion should I plan for when installing? How stable is this to weather changes?

A:  I have found no shrink or expansion when properly attached, their can be warping, how ever once again, that can be eliminated by making sure it is properly attached to the studs. humidity varys from 10 - 80 % where I live.

A:  Yes, just nail into the studs. (16 or 18 guage) I have the panels as tight together as possible. I use corner moulding to cover and protect the exposed plywood edges at the corners.

        by|Mar 22, 2024

A:  I did this, and have not noticed any shrink over a year and I live in the Northeast. I put a 1 inch strip of 1/4" over the joints to hide the joint though. I have to be blunt, I polyurethaned the panels and really didn't like the look. Currently going to paint over it, if I had drywall I would be upset that I covered it, but, I had old plaster and lathe walls that were a mess.

A:  Presumably you are doing this to add support to the top part of the mattress. For a small child, that would probably be all right. However, for an adult male, you should use at least 3/4 in., and for two, double that.

          by|Mar 16, 2024

A:  I would call your store on that question. However, a couple of things, first, there will be a delivery charge I suspect, second, 1/4" on top a box spring? Why? Personally, if I needed it cut that size and didn't have a saw, I would just go to the store, have them cut it, and put it on top of my car. 1/4" is so light, that should not be a problem, as long as you make sure you secure it so the wind doesn't catch it. OR, just rent a truck from HD, it's only about $20 for the first 75 minutes.

            by|Nov 13, 2019

A:  home depot does cut wood and offer delivery, you would need to inquire at your local home depots service desk or pros desk for more information.

A:  I apologize is this is causing issues for your purpose. This is called a glue identifier and is a common industry practice. A small amount of glitter material is placed in the glue to enable hardwood plywood manufacturers to distinguish their products from the products of others. Once it is used for a project, that's the only way to identify who made the material.

            by|Oct 22, 2019

A:  They are microscopic ID taggings for identification that are put there by the manufacturer. and it also sometimes gets into lots of recycled wood products as carry over.

              by|Dec 25, 2019

A:  that manufacturer would have to advise as to what contaminants are in the wood.

A:  you would need to find out the name of the manufacturer of the product you purchased previously to find out if that product is still available or not.

A:  Welcome to the world of not much wood for your buck. I have never heard of “plywood “ with a chip core, but it is not surprising. These products seem to be experiencing a concerted effort at systematic degrading. The veneer in hardwood plys have all but disappeared and working with them has become extremely tenuous. I do not have a ready answer except to say consider all your options prior to purchase. You may have purchased a piece or paneling rather than plywood.

A:  I would not recommend this product at all for that use. This birch plywood that is made for interior furniture/finish work. This product is not waterproof and would be destroyed by weather and sun. Unless you epoxy paint it and seal if fully, you will have a mess on your hands after the first rain.

A:  no it is a vary thin veneer on plywood, cutting boards and those kinds of surfaces are made from a solid wood not normally any kind of a plywood.

A:  I am not sure. You may be better off edge gluing stock and finishing from there. These sheets are great for cabinets but I would not trust them for utensils or kitchen tools.

A:  I would not. It is not durable enough and the layers will start to peal in a short amount of time... They do make a retreads to use over the old treads, but they are about $34 each...Other options to look at are, full replacement of the treads, or rubber treads, they come in several colors, and/or carpet as a more economical fix...

A:  This is 1/4 inch plywood with a very thin layer of birch. I would not recommend using this for what you intend. The birch would wear away very fast - it's not there to take wear. Even sanding it causes problems sometimes. It's great for cabinet doors and things that do not get much wear, floors, no.

A:  If you are planning to use this product as the wear surface ( the surface on which you will step), it is not a good choice for that. It will wear quickly as it is a soft wood and a thin layer of veneer. You’ll need a more substantial product for that purpose.
