A: No, this is not in a hanging pot. It is much to big for that. These are gorgeous ferns that I purchase and use in my large planters in the front of the house. They do not shed either.

A: This plant gets quite large needs good light. No bugs

A: It’s a pretty big plant. I thought it was smaller. It says it needs indirect light since it’s big I have it in a table with a hanging light fixture above. Not too close but enough light for it.

A: I left the fern in the pot it arrived in. It grew fine outdoors all summer, and wintered indoors with minimal care. Now outdoors again, still looking good, still in original pot, a year later.

A: Last year I planted all of mine in 14" clay pots, used Miracle Gro timed release fertilizer around the roots and placed them on stands and stacked bricks. By the end of summer they were at least 6 feet across and 4-5' high. Keep them in shade with some dappled sunlight, water at least 3 times a week soaking soil and spraying leaves and aerial roots. These are magnificent, hardy ferns. (all info related to central Texas summer conditions)

A: I kept it in the pot it came in for now and set it in a slightly bigger pot that has holes in it for drainage. Mine is outside and gets afternoon sun, so I water it every few days. Because of the homes/drainage, I don’t have to worry about overwatering.

A: Hi Lesliegeex! You can leave your plant in the original container for a few months. If you wish to repot your plant, we recommend using either a 10in or 12in diameter container that has a drainage hole. Use a soil that is blended for houseplants, potted plants, or foliage. If you have any more questions, please let us know at questions@costafarms.com, we are happy to help!

A: I put mine in a 12 inch pot and it seems to be doing fine. Although, it had some trouble this winter- lots of leaves dropped and some turned brown at the tips. I then did some reading and realized that the dry indoor heat was causing the problem and began misting it once a day (at least when i remembered to) and that seemed to help a lot because it soon started looking a lot healthier. Good luck!

A: Hello,
You can place the macho fern in low, medium, or bright light. If it is in a particularly sunny spot indoors, it's best to protect it from the direct sun with a sheer curtain. We hope this information is helpful!

A: Hello!
The Macho Fern will likely have issues if you split and repot the two due to transplant shock. If you choose to do so then check the plant for a good dividing line to separate the existing plant and safely make a good clean cut thru the entire root mass and soil profile from top to bottom. Try to minimize root injury as much as possible. Afterwards okay to repot each part into a similar size container. Choose a good quality potting soil formulated for house plants or ferns. Do not plant too deeply and keep the top of the soil line at the same level in the new pots. Afterwards water in and then maintain moderate soil moisture while they reestablish in the new pots. Avoid overly dry, and also overly wet or soggy soil, and do not have any standing water at the base of the plant or pot. Anticipate some leaf yellowing, scorching symptoms of the leaves, and perhaps some dieback or desiccation of the new growth. Thank you for your inquiry!

Q:I just bought three more of these. When I went to repot these, there are roots circling around the plant where the soil line is located. Do I cut these off, or can I simply cover them with potting soil?
Also, I have them in 5-7 gallon nursery pots, is this okay as long as I repot when they become pot bound?
Thanks.

A: Hello!
You may cover the exposed roots with soil. When the plants do become root bound you may repot them into the next size container using soil formulated for houseplants.
Thank you for your inquiry!

A: I’d cut them off since they are misdirected.

A: Hello!
The 8 ¾” Macho Fern can grow outside but will need to be protected and brought indoors when the temperature falls below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, place in an area protected from overly windy conditions. Otherwise they will perform and grow well at temperatures between 55 to 90 degrees F. Thank you for your inquiry!
