A:  Probably, just make sure that it will handle the torque. And that it is small enough to fit in the hole, which shouldn't be a problem here.

Q:Will the 5/8" dia. auger bit be the correct bit to drill 6"x6" treated wood deck columns for 5/8" dia. galv. bolts? Is the hole internal diameter after drilling slightly oversized?

      Answer This Question

A:  A 5/8 bit will drill a 5/8 hole. Fresh (wet) lumber might swell back into the hole, so you have to do some tapping with a hammer to get the bolt all the way through the finished hole, but that's a good thing. A nice tight water-proof seal.

Q:Have the 7/8 auger bit. What is the recommended rpm to use it?

        Answer This Question

A:  For auger bits, you need an auger drill, as it is geared down so the motor doesnt bog down while making the hole. It pulls the bit into wood and needs the torque a standard drill does not poses. Regular dont work, Auger drills are about $300-400 +

A:  Take it to a machinist specialist who can not only sharpen properly, but they can rethread the auger which is in theory, a screw-(tip). Once you fill it in the wrong direction, it will not work!

A:  Hi Hugh, we recommend using any type of flat file. However, for best results there are Auger bit files that are designed specifically for this task.
