Q:I repotted this plant with dirt from my back yard mixed with potting soil. Soon after the plant starts drupping and shedding leaves. How can revive it I think it's dying.

Answer This Question
A: Hello!
The Croton Petra leaves are drooping and falling off the plant likely due to lack of aeration and drainage in the soil used in repotting. When repotting Croton use a good quality potting soil only that’s formulated for foliage or houseplants for these. Native soil from the back yard can promote disease development and may have soil born disease inoculum present. Consider gingerly repotting into a good quality soil. The plant will hopefully recuperate afterwards. Maintain moderate soil moisture after repotting and avoid overly wet or soggy conditions and any standing water at the base of the container. The Croton should be in a bright location with filtered light or near a window with an east or west exposure that receives sun early or late for 3 to 4 hours daily. Hopefully that’s helpful. Thank You for your inquiry!

Answer This Question
A: Hello!
The Croton Petra makes a beautiful outdoor plant. Plant it in a sunny location and they grow best at between 60 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Lower night or seasonal temperatures will not harm the plants, as they are hardy enough to withstand temperatures as low as 40 F.

Q:Do you prune the plants to make them produce more branches??
by|Jul 10, 2016
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Hello!
Yes you can prune to promote more branching. We suggest only pruning out the growing tip just behind the leaf node of the emerging leaf. This is also referred to as a soft pinch. Afterwards this shoot will normally re-sprout 2 to 4 new growth points and result in a fuller plant.
