A: Hi there, thanks for the question! This mat is made specifically for use on hardwood surfaces such as laminate, vinyl, and wood. Variations in “hardness” of flooring products, frequency/duration of use, wheel size/type and other factors can affect specific performance on your floor surface. We hope this helps!

Q:Does it matter which side is up? There were no instructions; it came alone in the package (nicely packed). Does anyone know which side is supposed to be up? It seemed to me like the inside of the roll side was a little more textured, so I have that side up, but it looks like it will take longer to relax into place that way.

A: We installed ours with the inside of the roll down on the floor but I don’t think it matters

A: Good Morning, the textured side should face the floor, the smooth top should be the surface that your chair rolls on. The texture helps to hold the mat in place and laying it facing downward will help the mat to flatten after shipping. Having the smooth side facing upward will help the chair to roll easily on top of the mat and will be easier to clean. Hope this helps!

Answer This Question
A: Not at all.
by|May 6, 2020
A: Yes, it may give off an odor since it is made of vinyl.
by|May 9, 2020
A: We have not received recent complaints that the chair mat produces an odor. In some instances a plastic mat can emit a smell, specifically when removed from a shipping box that has been in high heat. In this cases, the odor quickly dissipates once the item is unpackaged and left to air out for a short period.

Q:Both sides seems of the mat seem identical: smooth with some almost unnoticeable slight groves. Does anyone know if the mat is specifically designed so one side is intended up for chair use, while the other is intended down for floor protection, or does it not matter (I.e., either side would work for both up/chair or down/floor). Thanks very much.

A: Hi Dan, There is a slight texture on one side of the mat, while the other side should be smooth and flat. The textured side should face up for the chair to roll on, while the smooth side should face the hard floor below. In all reality, you may not notice a difference in which side faces up or down with a hard floor chair mat, but we recommend the textured side face up. We hope you enjoy your new mat!

A: Same here. From what I can tell, there's no difference, which makes me wonder where the "lip" it mentions exists. Mine has no lip.

A: I put the smooth side down. This way the upper side will provide some traction so it should not be too slick to step on. I think it is made for hard floors. I am using it on carpet and it will move around when moving my chair. I need to reposition it every few days.

A: I noticed the same thing when I received mine. It doesn't seem to matter which side to place down. It appears they are both effective. I guess when one side gets scratched or discolored you can just flip it over.

A: Both sides seemed the same to me. I tried using it on both sides and did not see a difference.
