        A:  3/8 of an inch.

        A:  7/16 of an inch

        by|May 4, 2023

A:  Only about 1/4" thick, but because they are not very wide (18"), I've seen no sagging when loaded with some very heavy items.

          by|May 4, 2023

A:  They are 1/2 an inch, and of a pretty low quality. But - it should be enough, as it's not a commercial grade unit

            by|May 4, 2023

A:  The particle boards are 1/2 inch thick. I store old record albums on the two units I purchased. The records are very heavy. I would estimate one entire shelf unit, with five shelves, easily stores several hundred pounds records, I hope that helps.

A:  Took me less than 15 minutes for each entire shelving unit. Only tool needed is a hammer, to tap the side and end rails of each shelf into place in the posts.

A:  This model takes approximately 20 minutes to assemble depending on the individuals ability.

A:  This is the one that comes with adjustable shelves (the couplers), otherwise, the shelves themselves become the couplers, making it so they can't be adjusted... http://www.homedepot.com/p/Edsal-72-in-H-x-36-in-W-x-18-in-D-Steel-Commercial-Shelving-Unit-in-Black-UR-185WGB/202067995?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-202995256-_-202067995-_-N

A:  Yes. Once assembled, the shelf unit is very sturdy. It is relatively easy to adjust and remove a shelf. Suggest you use a rubber mallet to assemble and make adjustments.

A:  The shelves are removable and can be adjusted. Use a hammer and a scrap block of wood so you don't damage the metal pieces.

A:  Yes, you can put them at any spacing that you want. They are very easy to adjust or remove. The legs are in 2 pieces so you can make two 36" tall shelves or one 72" tall shelf. I made one 36" tall shelf and put all 5 shelves on it, not all spaced the same distance, as I wanted more space on the bottom shelf.

A:  Not with any ease. Once you determine where you want the shelves, it needs to stay put. Or you would risk it coming apart when you remove a shelf. The top, bottom and middle must remain as support but the other two can be put in a different configuration.

A:  Yes, both removable and adjustable. You do not have to use all of the 5 shelves if you don't need that many. You can place them at any vertical positions you want to, except where the couplers connect the two pieces of the corner posts (must be slightly above or below those).

                                      by|May 4, 2023

A:  Yes, providing you have the coupler for the second position. If not, a shelf must go in this postition so that the rivets in the braces can hold the upper and lower posts together.

That doesn't make any sense! Like selling a bike without wheels! Of course I realize this when all the peices are spread out on the garage floor! The whole thing is going back! Done with Home Depot!

A:  No. Couplers are not part of the package and not available from HD or Edsal.

A:  When I received this unit there were couplers missing. Those were mailed to me VERY quickly, so I assume they are very readily available. Therefore, I can't imagine that Edsal would not sell these to you separately if, for instance, you had damaged one or more of them.

A:  The unit is a base of 3 shelves and 2 added shelves to make 5. Unfortunately if you only add the 1 shelf it would make the side rails really unsupportive. It would require all shelves to have a solid structure.

A:  I used all 5 shelves, but I do not see any reason that using 4 would compromise the stability or sturdiness of the shelving. The shelves help square up the unit. Three shelves would probably be pushing it though.
