Q:Auto Off. Don't believe this product has it and I will be returning. Already drained the battery that came in it. If I don't remember to turn it off it's still on when i pick it up later. If someone can tell me theirs does turn itself off and how long it takes please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Answer This Question

A:  Read through the instructions on the one I purchased about a year ago. Nowhere did I see any mention of an "auto off" feature. I had never assumed it had one as this is not what I would consider a high end item. I bought mine to measure cartridge cases for reloading and it works quite well for that. I guess I wouldn't consider forgetting to turn it off as a problem with the item itself.

Q:0.25 mm is approximately 0.01 inches. 0.0005 inches is approximately 0.0127 mm. That's a huge difference in terms of expected accuracy. Description needs to be updated with the correct info

Q:0.25mm accuracy? that can't be right.

    Answer This Question

A:  This is probably not one you would want to use when extremely tight tolerances are required. With an accuracy range of 98/10,000 it works fine for me for checking the OAL of cartridge cases I'm reloading but there are other digital calipers available for less than $50 that have an accuracy range of .01mm/.0005 in. 5/10,000. Tested against my brither in laws top of the line caliprs, I would say the listed accuracy of .25mm is correct.

Q:The case supplied with mine has an additional molded cavity. What tool is this space for?

    Answer This Question

A:  Most machinist's will use their Digital Caliper a lot, so it will typically be sitting out on their lathe or drill press. Most good machinist's will use this extra cavity for either gauge blocks or spare batteries, drill bits or a chuck changing tool. Heck, I believe some people might use it as an ash tray (although I would not recommend that use, since it is plastic)...LOL Kind of like that little cup in the laundry room that always seems to collect junk. I use mine for spare batteries, but mostly because I don't yet have a lathe or gauge blocks. ;-)

Q:how do i switch from in and out on the digital display?
    by|Jan 27, 2017

    Answer This Question

A:  You don't need to switch it. It just measures distance. With the calipers closed it is zero distance. There are forward facing and backward facing tongs. In the picture shown above they are to the left and right of the display. The big tongs to the left of the display are for measuring the outside distance of something, and the small tongs to the right of the display are for measuring the inside distance of something. Alternatively if you separate the tongs you will find a long skinny metal stick poking down from the bottom of the ruler. This can be used to measure the depth of something if you stick it down into a hole with the bottom of the ruler at the flush top of the hole. (Provided of course the hole diameter is sufficiently large for the depth measuring stick.) An additional trick, if the hole has an inner flange you can put another scrap of wood or metal across the hole and leave just enough space for the depth measuring stick to go into the hole. Then drop the bottom of the rule to the top of your scrap of material. Take a reading, then measure the thickness of the scrap of material and subtract the thickness reading from the depth reading and you'll have the depth of the hole.

A:  There is nothing to switch. The large jaws measure O.D. while the small jaws measure I.D. at the same time.

Q:How do you open the battery compartment?

A:  With your fingernail or something similar moving the cover away from the jaws. Look for the arrow.

A:  With downward pressure on the battery cover, push and slide away from the jaws of the caliper. There is a rubber cap over the battery that needs to be pulled up to remove. I removed the battery by putting a finger nail beside that battery to pry it up.

A:  There is a little round cap that looks metal but it is actually plastic. Press it with your thumb and pull back towards the depth-measuring-end of the caliper. The plastic cap should slide off. You can help it along with a small sharp flat-head screw driver near the front of the caliper (end that you would normally use for measuring). Once you get this cap off there will be a small rubber seal under it protecting the battery. Peel that away and you can then press your baby finger on one side of the battery while using the same small sharp screw driver to lift the button battery out of it's seat. Simply replace and put everything back as best you can.
