Answer This Question
A: We do not recommend altering the Everbilt 3/8 in.-16 x 1 in. Zinc Plated Hex Bolt as performance could be compromised. A 6-point socket is recommended but a 12-point socket may be used for lighter duty projects, but it is more likely to round off the head of the bolt. Please call or visit your local Home Depot store and ask a store associate for additional information about 12-point socket use cases.

A: Cheap socket sets come in 12 point they will work fine if your not in a high torque need. 6 point will handle more power.

A: Your 12 point socket will fit both hex and 12 point fasteners the same size. Bolts with a 12 point head (frequently called castle head bolts) are used where high torque is used. Many engine exhaust manifolds are attached with 12 point fasteners.
