Q:I know how the nut & insert works but which way does the compression fitting go .

Answer This Question
A: The adapter fitting, which is the side that is 3/8” FIP, that should be installed first. Then on the compression side you would install the nut and ferrule on the tube with the threads facing towards the end of the tube where you are installing on the fitting. Then use the insert inside the tube if using a soft tube, such as vinyl. The tube should be inserted until it hits the stop inside the compression side. Then slide the nut and ferule down to the fitting and tighten per instructions. The compression is the threaded part and the nut with the ferule in between them.

Q:I need to install a bidet. My water valve is a 1/2 in male connection and i have a toilet hose with a 3/8 female connection. The bidet adaptor comes between both of these and that's what I need THIS coupling for.
The problem is: the 1/2 in connection does not have a water tight seal, and neither does this coupling so my valve still leaks.
My question is: How do i make this coupling and my valve water tight? PTFE Tape?

A: It sounds like your valve outlet is a 1/2” slip joint. Slip joint has straight threads (NPS) and will not work with this fitting that uses tapered (NPT) threads. A slip joint to 3/8” compression adapter such as

A: tape won't help you. You should be able to get a 3/8" compression adapter, to go from 1/2" FMPT to 3/8" MPT. There are several options you can use. Talk to the HD specialist in the pipe fitting department.

Q:In order to get a bidet on my toilet, I was given an adapter to go between water hose and the valve. My water valve is a 1/2 in connection and the water hose i bought needs a 3/8 connection. Using this coupling i tried to bridge the thread difference but I still get a leak at the valve, should I add PTFE tape to the valve in order to get the water tight seal? Taking suggestions, thank you!
TLDR; big end no water seal, please tell me how!
