A:  Dear NHRabc, this particular hinge does NOT look like it can hold the door open. It is possible, however, to prop the door open with something heavy such as a LARGE FIRE EXTINGUISHER when use on a kitchen door.

A:  It'll work outside alright, spray a little wd40 every once in a while to keep things loose and protected. However, this finish will stain just from feeling sunlight, if its an outdoor installation get the oil rubbed bronze one,

A:  These are intended for indoor use only. There are spring loaded hinges for outdoor use

A:  The Double-Action Spring Door Hinge is not for use on a gate. When exposed to outdoor conditions, there is a possibility of rust and corrosion.

A:  These hinges specifically are not made from weather resistant materials. The spring mechanisms containing lots of smaller, intricate parts that will rust and seize up in higher humidity and wet climates. Attaching a file for an item that would better suit your needs.

A:  Application and desired location is personal preference. When exposed to outdoor conditions, there is a possibility of rust and corrosion.
