Q:Maybe it's a dumb one... but is a ceiling going to be able to support this + the 750 pounds of weight? To clarify, this would go on the ceiling of a garage, where the bedroom is above the garage.

Answer This Question
A: Yes, if installed according to the instructions. You must ensure that the anchor bolts securing the horizontal mounting brackets are driven into the center of the ceiling/floor joists. You cannot use any type of drywall anchor or toggle bolt. Best way to locate center of ceiling/floor joists is by using a good quality stud finder.

A: Hello CWebb, if the ceiling joist of your garage are 4 inches height or more (2" x 4" boards) and they are 16" apart on center. It will support 750 pounds.

A: The brackets on top of the shelf has to screw into the studs that are holding up the sheetrock in your garage, as well as supporting the floor above your garage. All you need to do is determine is the direction of your studs and you're in business. If you're struggling to figure out how to mount these shelves, hire a company to put in the first one, then copy them. They are not that expensive! BTW, unless you are storing barbells and weights on your shelves, 750 lbs. seems a little excessive. But just remember, every support bolt must screw into a stud in the ceiling joists.

A: The two I have installed in my garage are still there despite the load of stuff that are on them. Follow the instructions and you should be fine. The majority of the load from the above bedroom is going down the walls while the rest is evenly distributed across the joists.

Q:What is the minimum ceiling height?
What is the adjustable minimum shelf height?
by|Jan 21, 2023

Answer This Question
A: The minimal height from ceiling to the bottom of the rack in the smallest configuration is 23 inches. The minimal ceiling height is up to you. I have 3 installed in my garage, they are hung from 9 foot ceilings and I have 2 of them in the shortest configuration. Word of caution. The lag bolts that came with them have a habit of snapping off if you use an impact drill to put them in, even with predrilling. The racks themselves are great.

Answer This Question
A: I installed it myself with help from my son.
Definitely at least a two-man job
Had to make up our own instructions.
The instructions provided would make it much harder to put up.
Do not bolt all the panels together first, as when you try to put them up, they will flex.

A: I have a metal cutting wheel that I cut the bars down two inches so it will sit above my garage door
by|May 10, 2022
A: Can’t cut down. I ran into this issue with the minimum height being too low to accommodate my garage. The minimum height is the minimum height! Also, don’t establish too close to the opening because the garage door will catch!

A: Yes, you need at least two people, three would be more ideal (just at the end for the mounting process) And you’ll need ladders tall enough to reach near the ceiling of your garage.

A: No I don't, I was being charged 250. I decided to do it myself, with a little help of Utube University! Was not hard, but as a industrial machinery tech, I have all the tool need for the install. And I'm sure you, the right tools for the job make night and day difference.

A: Not sure what you mean with your question. If you mean did I install it myself, no, I did not. I have two friends who did the installation because it involved going up in my attic (to which there is no access door and my 12' garage ceilings are very high, plus I only have a 6' step ladder). They had to locate the studs so as to ensure it was secure. Once the studs were located, it did not take much time to install, but it definitely takes two people to do the job quickly and correctly.
