A:  No ballast, just screw it into a 120v socket like any other 60 or 100 watt lamp. Cheers -KB

A:  I am not home to measure it right now, but 5 inches is about right. No way it's 10, it would not fit in my post lamp.-KB

A:  Thank you for the inquiry. This lamp is super sku with higher wattage equivalents which are longer. The reviews that you read are for other models similar to this lamp. This lamp is 5.64" long and will fit inside an enclosed bollard like a traditional medium base lamp.
