Q:How do you break the transition of crown molding going to the upstairs or do you continue the crown molding to the top of the stairs?

Answer This Question
A: Hello Michelle, thank you for your inquiry. your options do depend on the configuration of your stair case and the ceiling angles. You do have a couple options when you meet an open staircase during crown mould installation. One option is the end the run of crown moulding before the ceiling begins to angle up the staircase. In this option you will want to create a returned end to cap the edge of the last crown piece for a finished look. Another option is to continue the crown up the staircase following where the wall and ceiling meet. We hope this information is helpful in the completion of your current crown mould project.

A: Hello Michael, thank you for your inquiry. The top of the crown mould has the longest flat length that installs along the ceiling. The shorter flat length installs against the wall. We hope this information helps you with the completion of your crown moulding project.

Q:I have a popcorn ceiling. Will this moulding fit? If not, what can you recommend. Thank you!

Answer This Question
A: Yes, but you would want to remove the "popcorn" where the edge of the molding meets the ceiling for a clean edge.

A: The easiest thing to do would be to put it up and use a bead of caulking to hide any gaps created by the popcorn. No one will ever see it - especially if you apply a final coat of paint on the moulding, after it's in place, which would also paint over the caulk.

A: I don't have popcorn ceilings. It may be difficult to apply caulking. Perhaps a wallpaper border would work.

A: We had popcorn ceilings too, which we scraped semi flat. The area under the molding we scraped it flat with a dry putty type knife (very easy) to get a clean edge to attach the molding to. Once it was sealed you couldn’t see any gaps at all. It’s very secure.

A: This moulding will work. You may have to compress the popcorn that contacts crown against ceiling, or scrap away, small amounts of popcorn that contacts crown. You'll do this only to get a flat mating surface with crown and ceiling. If you don't compress or scrap, small amount of popcorn, you will have gap between ceiling and crown. It comes down to how you want the final look to be!

A: Hi Eva, thank you for your inquiry. To have the best finish, we recommend scrapping off the popcorn ceiling in the areas where you'll be installing the moulding. You can also fill the holes. The idea is that you want to have a smooth area where you go to install the crown to not have gaps. We hope this helps.

A: Hi Rip, thank you for your inquiry. Depending on where this is being placed and if the corner is 90 degrees, this can be installed. However, this question cannot be answered through here since we would need more information to give you the correct answer. This is why we would recommend speaking to your contractor and getting an opinion from a professional. We're sorry this doesn't answer your question but we hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck.

Q:Could you install this molding on kitchen cabinets?

Answer This Question
A: Yes you could if cabinets are not against ceiling. If cabinets are against ceiling, the 4-1/4 in profile might make it difficult. May have to use a narrower profile.
