To wire as described, you would nee to cut the fan's blue wire from the wire harness to enable you to connect it to the switch wire. Then the receiver would be wired a normal and connected to the other switch. This would allow you to turn the light on/off with a switch and turn the fan on/off with the other while still being able to control fan speed with the remote. Please note that if installed like this, you will not have any smart functions available for the light and the light's color temperature may change if the switch is turned off/on too rapidly (within 4 seconds).

The included 6" downrod is the shortest compatible downrod for use with this fan. The fan is compatible with 3/4" diameter (inner diameter) threaded downrods. Hampton Bay does not produce downrods.
