Answer This Question
A: Hi Dahil! Neem Oil must be diluted with water prior to use. To prepare a sprayable emulsion, mix Neem Oil with water and a surfactant (dish soap, etc.). For 1 quart of water use 1 teaspoon (tsp.) of Neem Oil with 1/6 tsp. of soap. Shake well. Maximum recommended use rate, when pests are persistent, is 2 tsp. of Neem Oil in 1 quart of water with 1/3 tsp. soap. Shake well. For trees only, you can mix 4 tsp. Neem Oil in 1 quart of water with 2/3 tsp. of soap. Mix well. Keep mixture agitated during application to maintain consistency. FOLIAR SPRAY: Spray the diluted solution generously on all leaf surfaces, including the underside, prior to or at onset of pests. Ensure that both the top and bottom of leaves are wetted. For optimum results, repeat the applications at intervals of 7-10 days or 1-2 weeks. Use high rates and increase spray frequency when pest pressure is high. Do not apply Neem Oil in direct sunlight. Always spot test plants _first for sensitivity to sprays. Neem Oil may solidify at cooler temperatures. Store above 65°F and below 95°F. If oil thickness, place bottle in hot water. SOIL-DRENCH: This solution can also be used to water the plants and control insects. When needed, soil drenches can be used to control soil borne pests and larvae of pests. When applied as a soil drench, avoid excessive run off.
Extracted neem oil contains the active ingredient azadirachtin which also acts as an insecticide.
Neem oil with azadirachtin works as a systemic and contact treatment insecticide. As a systemic, it is absorbed by a plant and transported through plant tissue. Azadirachtin reduces feeding capability, interferes with insect hormonal systems, and can act as repellent. Some soft-skinned insect larvae may be killed by direct contact with the spray. The next three numbers are the day out of 365 days. This bottle of Neem was produced July 21st, 2022. We recommend using the product within two years of manufacturing date.
