A:  No. I'd been using a new Belkin surge protector when a Home Decorators Collection representative (800-986-3460) told me do NOT use an extension cord or surge protector (apparently, this directive is on page page 3 of the manual). Yet, the cord extends only five feet from my fireplace screen, which isn't reasonably long enough to reach the nearest electrical outlet (six feet from my fireplace opening). Further, please note that the plug, where my unit was plugged into a surge protector, nearly caught fire. When I realized the dire situation, the plug had smoldered, was throwing blue sparks, and was too hot to touch. Yikes! So if the unit had been plugged directly into the electrical outlet, isn't it more likely to have started a house fire? For whatever reason, if Home Decorators Collection doesn't want us to use extension cords or surge protectors, the cords need to be at least two feet longer. Avoid using this insert going for extended periods of time, maybe just 3-4 hours at a time, and be vigilant in checking to make certain the plug isn't overheating.

A:  It is okay to place on wood surface.

A:  The candles have LED Boards which produces the light, they have a much longer life span than a normal light bulb, If for any reason the candles stop lighting you can contact Twin Star Customer Service 866-661-1218 and have an LED Board sent out to you.

A:  Do the light bulbs burn out and are they replaceable.

A:  I would expect that you could put them back to back in a two-sided fireplace and it would look very nice. Their outer perimeter has straight edges, so should line up well.

A:  They probably could but would need space in between if you used the heater, for venting. I have a two sided and just one and it looks good from the back. See pic. Just peel the stickers off.

A:  If this is something you the customer would like to do, you can, if you place 2 of them back to back, please make sure you leave a space between the two units so they can breath correctly.

A:  This item is meant for single side use only, so the back is not meant to be presented in a double sided fireplace.

A:  Whether or not this unit could be safely used in a space with an used gas valve is a question best answered by an electrician or similar professional who could see and evaluate options to make this adaptation safely. Without the advice of an electrician we would not recommend using this fireplace in a space with an unused gas valve.

A:  I did...since he gas valve is capped and shut off!! The unit plugs into the wall!

A:  I think it looks weird to have "fireplaces" in furniture since it looks to me like they're on fire. But it's popular to buy TV cabinets with fake fireplaces in them. I'm no expert, but is it safe to put any heating element in a regular piece of cabinetry, that isn't reinforced somehow to safely accommodate an electric heater?

A:  The unit measures 11.61 x 20.7 x 8.66 inches.

A:  This measures 20 1/8" wide x 11" high x 8 3/4" deep, so if your cabinet is deep enough, this will fit.
