A: I use it on a roof rack on my truck all the time - the short end is about a foot and a 1/2 long which should be fine for most racks. But generally all you need to worry about is getting the ratchet in the right place when you put them on the rack so you can tighten and loosen them.
A: If you use 6" as a reference, its probably longer than that.
A: You cannot adjust the Short end, you can only adjust the long end depending on the length you are using to wrap around your roof rack. If it's short, you will have to attach a second tie down to it.
A: FROM DIYBL : THANKS FOR THE ANSWERS BOUGHT THE STRAPS THEY WORK GREAT ! (couldn't see how to delete question)
A: Oddly enough I use one of these for this purpose. it is more than long enough to wrap around and hook onto itself, The strap attached to the ratchet is about a 13 inches without the hook.
A: Hopefully you bought the straps with a Home Depot card. If so, they have a record of your purchase and should be able to help you with a refund/replacement. Something to consider. . . You didn't keep the slack in your strap out slapping around in the wind while driving to and from? If so, the strap will wear prematurely. It's best to take up the slack and keep it inside your car.
A: Home Depot is very reasonable on returns. Without a receipt, they will usually give you store credit. Then just use the store credit to get another set.
A: I’d take both pieces to my local Home Depot and ask. They may be able to look it up or it may have a warranty. Can’t hurt to ask. They may replace it on the spot since it’s husky brand.
A: You'd probably have to show up just before closing on a Sunday night when the newest store manager is just trying to remember how to set the building alarm. Otherwise, I recommend buyin another 4-pack for $10 and then keeping it away from any puppies looking for chew toys.
A: Unfortunately you would have to contact husky for a warranty claim. You could try taking it back to the store you purchased it at but they will probably not be able to help without a receipt.
A: Mine had a drawstring bag in bottom of the package
A: I'm guessing a little here, but Husky provides that black bag under the plastic shell for storage, not a head cover. But if you want to show off the length of your strap(s), I recommend hanging them in a conspicuous local in the shop. I don't think the marketers or engineers intended for the plastic finger skin ripping packaging to be reused, but I'm sure they can be recycled, so my recommendation is to hang'em high and do something else with the time you'll save not trying to put pandora back in the box. Throw that packaging in the green bin.
A: Most come with a bag to store them in. It’s located in the lower compartment
A: Hello Tomp, Unfortunately the package is not intended to survive the removal of the product, for storage.
A: Mine came with a black bag I keep them in.
A: Guys, I figured it out! No screwdriver required. Pull the ratchet handles up, then give the first one a hard tug upward (if package lying flat) toward you. This will break through the plastic clasps and pop off the bottom part with the bag. Then repeat for the other ratchets. The then you can easily pull out the remaining straps in the box.
A: Greg's instructions from March 2019 are correct. Lift a ratchet handle. You will see a red plastic holder on the bottom section of the ratchet and that plastic holder has two little feet that push into the black case itself. Lift those two plastic feet and then pry the red plastic holder off of the ratchet. Now pull down (hard) on the ratchet handle (pull down and out towards the bottom of the package) and the ratchet will come loose (reluctantly) from its little holder in the very top of the package. No, it's not easy and thanks to Greg for giving the instructions or I would have been in the same boat as everyone else. The screwdriver in my image is pointing to the little red holder that needs to be removed first.
A: Hammer!
A: Yes, I hate the unpacking. It's not pretty. Its almost better to get those straps out when no one's looking. Here's my recommedation. If your meditation practice is taking 9 deep breaths 5 times per day, I would use one of the 5 just before trying to free these straps. If you have a partner to join in, tea for two after this release experience will be gratifying. I recommend a pair of pliers to grap the plastic tab holding each strap down. If you're partner is able, have them hang on to the package as you pull. That should do it. Oh yes, Enjoy!
A: I know is hard to open!!!!!
A: Better question is, "What kind of person designed this package, and without instructions as to how to preserve it without breaking it?" One would think they would give instructions as to how to open it given they made it so difficult. I paid for that package and wound up breaking it! They are also wasting the consumers' valuable time in trying to figure it out, including coming here for guidance.
A: brute strength. I used a screw driver (pulled the handle on each one up) to remove the orange things (leverage it) then my son pulled up on the bottom part (where the red cardboard is in bottom of picture and popped it off. The try to push the ratchet part under the the black plastic hanging over it. So we got them off (I had Home Depot local store on the phone and they were trying to figure it out, too). There should be an obvious better way but it is not obvious. There is a slit on the bottom middle (part that is facing flat down on picture) that I thought I should be able to slip a flathead screw driver in and twist but that didn't work. There has to be a better way but that is what worked for us now. HOME DEPOT and HUSKKY - what is the deal?
A: Lift the handle on one of the tie-downs and you will see a red plastic part that holds the strap in place. Use a flat blade screw driver and pry up the two tabs on the sides of the red plastic part and remove this part. This will enable the strap to be pulled out from the packaging. Then pull down on the handle so that it will clear the tab holding the ratchet in place. These instructions are part of the packaging beside the red clips, but the letters are black so you don't notice them on the black background. Repeat 3 times to remove the other straps.
A: I just got mine open after finally reading the previous answers and it took a BIG screw driver and a needle nose pliers. I shredded the package! It was the ONLY way. THIS is the result of outsourcing EVERYTHING to junior designers and builders in China. NEVER BUYING HUSKY again.
A: Abysmal packaging failure. It appeared that the packaging was some sort of storage container. Why else would they have gone to the expense of the elaborate packaging. I ended up busting it free with pliers and screwdriver. What were they thinking!
