Questions & Answers

How many feet of strap can the spindle hold before it's full?

Answer This Question

Can I use this to ratchet up a 350lb light fixture to the ceiling from the attic?
ByNov 29, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

While the 27 ft × 2 in Heavy-Duty Ratchet Tie-Down Strap is rated for cargo securing, it is not designed or certified for lifting or hoisting people or fixtures overhead. Using it to raise a 350 lb light fixture from the attic could be unsafe, because ratchet straps are not rated for vertical lifting and could fail due to load angle, dynamic forces, or improper attachment. For lifting the fixture, please use lifting-rated hardware such as a chain hoist, winch, or a load-rated pulley system that is certified for overhead lifting.

We don’t offer a warranty, but you can request a refund through The Home Depot’s policy. Additionally, we will compensate for any losses caused by manufacturing defects.

What is the maximum length that can be ratcheted? Usually you pull it tight then ratchet to finish tightening the strap. I need to lift something up about a meter. Will this work for that?

      Answer This Question

You can only wind about 1.5-2 feet of strap before the spindle is full.

      By|Aug 9, 2026

Please use web slings for lifting.

Can I use a couple of these to hoist my small boat up to my garage ceiling for storage? Will it support the weight of my boat hanging if connected to i bolts in the rafters? The boat is only a couple hundred pounds.

Ya as long as your boat don’t weight more than 3,300 lbs but you will only be able lift few inches at a time and re-adjust the strap cause it can only roll some much up before it won’t ratchet no more. Get a come a long…

No. The ratchet only takes up a few inches. This is a tie-down, not a cable puller.

                      (2)

Please note that ratchet tie down is not designed for lifting and it may leave color on the attaching surface.

They are rather cheap for the value. They have a 2 inch width; That is optimal to secure cargo without risking over tightening it, on the other hand it is nice to be ABLE to really tighten them when your cargo demands it. A few of them can replace complex bungee/lower strength cargo setups. Less time securing cargo, more time moving. You will realistically be far safer with your cargo. On the flip side... Misuse can easily snap standard lightweight pickup bed hooks, You can crush wooden crates. But as I mentioned before, it's all about having them as tight as they NEED to be, not as tight as they CAN be. A few good points of contact are all you need even for things like ... Full size modern smart fridge freezer combos. The larger strap width means you have MORE square inches of contact, Holding strength scales not only with clamping force, but also with surface area of contact. Haul safe, cheers.

I needed long straps to repair a model. Most of the straps were too short. These worked perfectly.

Using these to tie down UTV to trailer. They are way longer than needed for that so I folded up and taped the extra, that way I can use full length in the future if needed. Straps, hooks and ratchets are very strong. Definitely trust them to perform to specs listed and priced reasonably for what you get.

                        Interlocking Nightmare
Husky fell short of the mark on the engineering of these. Nice heavy duty straps, but if you connect the hooks to each other be prepared to cut the straps, or spend a half hour trying to figure out the puzzle of disconnecting the hooks from each other. I don’t have that kind of time. What a waste.

Tough and High Quality but One Safety Caveat
I couldn't get a replacement strap for my Erickson for less than four times the price of these! The quality matches the Erickson in every respect except for a lack of a lock tab on the Husky. Therefore, these Husky tie-downs don't lock in the closed position. If you buy these, tape or strap the handle in the closed position. The photos I've provided illustrate the problem. In spite of this small design oversight, I'd say buy a bunch of these at this price!
