Questions and Answers for Kwikset 6 Way Adjustable Lock Dead Latches

A:  The ring and the latchbolt have a chrome finish but the strike plates are brass.

A:  It is both drive in use face plate for screws.

A:  I think that is what the round collar is for. It is not shiny chrome but looks like brass plating or paint.

A:  No it can not be, and no it's not chrome.

A:  According to the picture, you should be able to use the latch for either drive-in, or mortise (plate). You need to look at the package because not all are the same. As far as chrome, it doesn’t matter because you can’t see it when the door is closed.

A:  The answer is no. You need to stay with the same brand name for parts.

A:  These are 2 completely different companies no interchangeable parts

A:  YES. I replaced the guts of a Schlage entry door handle with this item. Schlage doesn't sell this at my Home Depot, but Kwikset is the standard.

A:  I'm pretty sure Schlage and Kwikset are completely different constructions, so I very much doubt this would work.

A:  I tried to use this in my Schlage lock set, but it would not fit.

A:  No - The latch is adjustable for 2-3/8" and 2-3/4" backsets. You would need a special latch for 5".

A:  You need to buy the 5” latch separately.

A:  Kwikset Model # 19841 6WAL DL CP 3 features an adjustable back set of 2-3/8" to 2-3/4". Kwikset model #83014 features a 5" back set. Please visit your local Home Depot special order counter for pricing and availability.

A:  If the lock on the door is a Baldwin Prestige or Reserve handle set then it is the latch shown. If the lock on the door is a Baldwin Estate then the latch shown is not the correct latch.

A:  Only way to know is to purchase it and try. It is possible that Kwikset made the Baldwin brand unit. Easier to replace the latch than the whole door handle set and need to rekey.

A:  Probably not. It's a Kwikset part. Not a Universal part.

A:  I will answer my own question. I bought this and it does fit Baldwin door handles. After a little research I found that they are the same company and share parts.

Model # 19843 6WAL PL CP 3, 6 Way Adjustable Lock Plain Latch that does not have the auxiliary bolt, is used for a bed/bath or hall/closet knob or lever, this does not require a physical metal key.

A:  Typically the dead latch is used for locks - the plain latch would be used for non-locking passage function.
