Older LG Window Air Conditioners used to have a ventilation lever that you had to leave in the closed position in order to maintain the best cooling conditions, but if you wanted fresh air in the room, you could pull the ventilation lever into the open position open the damper to draw the room air out. But, your LW1023ERSM does not have a ventilation lever. But the way air conditioners works is that they pull in air from the outside through the louvers on the sides and on the top of the unit. They do not circulate the air into the room, that air is passed over the evaporator coils which cool the air and the fan blows that cooled air into the room. Another fan blows the air out through the back of the air conditioner to the outside of the room. ^Jolly
