Q:Can this be used to cover cinder blocks for a gas fire pit?

Answer This Question
A: The answer will depend on the blocks used on the inside of your firepit. If they are the heat resistant kind (which you should always use for fire pits), then you can use stucco for anything that would not expose it to a lot of heat. Stucco, like most other surface materials, expands and contracts with the temperature, so if you expose it to heat on one side or in one area, but not evenly, then it will tend to crack (badly).
You would be better off using some kind of artificial surface treatment, like "fake brickwork" (they look like bricks on the surface, but are actually very thin veneer bricks) which can be quite good looking and would not have the same expansion problem. You can use stucco, just know that it will likely crack. You can fill the cracks, but I think you will end up in a never-ending crack battle.

A: Yes, as long as the inner wall is fireproofed using fire brick while the outer walls should use heat resistant cinder blocks before applying the Fastwall. You can finish the wall with a variety of materials including stucco, thin brick veneer, traditional brick, etc. If you have no plastering experience the recommendation would be to have a contractor build the pit to avoid any failures.
