Q:my house only has 2 wires per switch box, a white and a black, no copper ground wire, how can I get a motion sensing switch for my application?

Answer This Question
A: That’s a question better addressed by calling your local building department. These sensors are only designed to work when there’s no neutral available. Remember that a downstream neutral can go to 120v if an upstream neutral wire nut connection fails.

Q:Can I use this for the walk-in closet where my switch is located outside the closet? Will it go on if someone walks pass by it (not inside the closet)

Answer This Question
A: It will turn on when someone walks past it - would need to adjust the timing as only motion in the range of the sensor, which appears to be outside the closet, would keep the light on, not inside.

A: This depends on if you have a so-called soft start fan or one that starts up immediately. The latter require the unit to be rated for inductive loads (high in-rush current) which this one is not.

Answer This Question
A: This is called a switch loop. Power (should) come in on white (line) and leave on black (load). The white wire should be reidentified with e-tape (black is most common, but so long as it’s not white, gray, green, or green with yellow stripes, you’re good.

Answer This Question
A: Reread the specification. It says 250 WATTS, not VOLTS. That wattage rating is for traditional incandescent light bulbs which are resistive loads. LED or CFL lighting loads on the other hand are restricted to 150 watts.
