Q:Is there a dimmer switch available that is wireless to the light fixtures? My light fixtures can have a constant hot wire, and I can have a constant hot wire at the switch.

Answer This Question

A:  Hello! In order to have control over your lighting from a switch on the wall, you will need to wire a device inline between the power and the lighting. If your lighting has constant power, there will be no way of controlling it via a Lutron wall switch or dimmer. If you still have questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-844-LUTRON1. Q:Is this particular one a single pole or for 3-way switch?

    Answer This Question

A:  There is no difference with the Caseta smart switches. If you have a 3-way switch, you place the smart switch at one location (hard wired) and then place a pico/remote at the location of the other switch. There are plenty of videos on YouTube explaining this process. It's a very smart approach and saves a ton of money by only requiring one smart switch ($60) per light with remotes/picos ($20) everywhere else.

A:  Will work in both applications.

      by|Sep 29, 2022

A:  It will work for both. There are instructions for how to use this to make a single pole a 3 way as well as use this to replace an existing 3 way.

        by|Sep 24, 2022

A:  Either. It works as a 3 way. If you have single you wire for single and use remote as 3. If you have 3 you can cap off one end.

A:  Hello! The PD-6WCL dimmers that are included in this bundle are single pole dimmers. You can use them in a 3-way application by using the Pico Wireless Remotes instead of using a traditional mechanical switch! If you still have questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-844-LUTRON1. We're here 24/7, so you can reach out any time, day or night.

A:  No, because they are 2 different software and each Hub will communicate with its respective device that is factory configured to detect its own brand.

A:  Hello, thank you for your inquiry. The Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge and Lutron App is only directly compatible with Lutron Caseta products, and therefore cannot connect directly to Insteon devices. Please see the below link for a list of integration partners Caseta works with: https://www.casetawireless.com/us/en/works-with. We hope this helps! A:  No, you can only have ( 1 ) bridge per system. If you need extended coverage, you can add up to ( 1 ) auxiliary wireless repeater, model number ( PD-REP-WH ).

Q:Why is this more expensive than just buying a normal starter kit and a separate switch with remote (which gets you 2 mountable remotes instead of just 1)? I'm noticing a trend with these Lutron bundles--they have lesser value to the customer than buying the items separately. Dumb.

A:  I think the started has a hub, but once you install a Steichen with the hub you don’t need to buy the starter set. by the way, had trouble having Caseta switch handling 3 ceiling LED lights. Always dropping on light every day.

A:  Lutron has weird pricing that seems to be aimed at encouraging separate item purchases normally, but decreasing the bundle price occasionally to try to hook people not willing to pay the sum of separate items. My guess is that it is an intentional marketing strategy.

A:  I returned all of my CASETA products. They didn’t work at much shorter distances than shown in the specs. Lutron customer service didn’t know much and couldn’t help. I advise friends to avoid Lutron CASETA.

Q:Thinking about starting to install these at home. What sort of set up do I need for staring wth a dining room and want to control/dim chandelier and overhead lights separately.

                          Answer This Question

A:  That is very similar to the setup we have in our dining room, except we have sconces rather than overhead lights. For this to work, each needs to be wired separately to a dimmer. Fortunately in our house there were separate cables going from the switch location to the sconces and to the chandelier, even though no actual chandelier had been installed. If this isn't the case in your dining room, you will need to get an electrician to run a separate cable to the chandelier. But the end result is worth it!

A:  One PD-6WCL dimmer would need to be installed to control just the chandelier, and the other PD-6WCL dimmer would be installed to just control the overhead lights. These will be two independent lighting circuits. You can reference the wiring on the install guide here: https://www.casetawireless.com/Documents/QuickStartCasetaInWallDimmerKitUS.pdf.

A:  You install these to replace existing switches. Using these through the app is nice for remote operation but the real convenience is hooking them into - ie Alexa. You walk in the house and speak and the lights come on and off. No more hunting for the switch on a lamp to turn off the lights when your in bed. You just tell Alexa to turn off the light! Once you get one, you will be replacing all.

A:  If the chandelier and overhead lights are controlled by separate wall switches, just buy two and install them in place of the two switches.

A:  these are fairly easy to hook up. you may need plates to match but as long as those lights have bulbs that are the dimmable type you should be fine.
