Q:Lutron skylark dimmer on 3way switch for dining chandelier interferes with recessed kitchen lights on different 3way switch without dimmer. Kitchen lights take a long time to fully light when dining light is on first. No issues by itself. How to fix?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello, thank you for your question. We are sorry to hear about the issue you have encountered with your dimming application. This is likely a location-specific form of LED incompatibility known as neutral interaction, which is effectively the manifestation of electrical interference/line noise of something else on this same circuit causing a performance issue with adjacent lighting when a dimmer is introduced to the circuit. The most common fix for this is to use a neutral-based dimmer, such as model PD-5NE: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lutron-Caseta-Smart-Lighting-Dimmer-Switch-for-ELV-Bulbs-250W-LED-Bulbs-White-PD-5NE-WH-PD-5NE-WH/300674736 We hope this helps! Q:My current dimmer switch has two black and one green wire. If I understand correctly this switch will use the red, black and green wires. Do I use the red wire instead of either one of my black wires? In other words, are the red and black interchangeable?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello, thank you for your question. The Skylark Contour LED+ Dimmer is able to be installed in a single pole (two-wire + ground) or 3-way (three-wire + ground) application. For your application, you will only need to use the black and red solid wires on the dimmer, plus ground, and cap off and not use the red/white-striped wire. And yes, the black and red wires on the dimmer are interchangeable in a single pole application. See the below spec sheet for more information: https://assets.lutron.com/a/documents/369683.pdf We hope this helps! If you require further assistance, our 24/7 support team is here to help.
