Answer This Question
A: 1/2" black pipe is .84" OD and 1/2" copper is .625" OD. This item along with the 3/4" version will not work for your black steel pipe.

Answer This Question
A: They are copper plated steel, according to the manufacturer's info sheet: https://www.oatey.com/ASSETS/DOCUMENTS/ITEMS/EN/Copper%20Tube%20Straps.pdf
Why does Home Depot misinform customers? The "Product Overview" on this page says they are "made of copper," and the "Specifications" lists the material as "copper."
And why do people who don't know what they are talking about so often answer these product questions? The other answer to this question states flatly, "These are solid copper."
The lesson is not to trust anyone's word but to go directly to the primary source. It only took me a couple of minutes to locate the manufacturer's own info.

A: Thank you mozart40.
I also see wrong answers on these Q&A sections quite often. If Home Depot would just give a more thorough description of their items, there would be fewer question and fewer incorrect answers.

A: Frankly, I don't know the answer but a magnet will tell you immediately. Either it will be attracted by the magnet (steel) or not (copper).

Answer This Question
A: We suggest using an appropriate fastener based upon the material this is being attached to. If outside, we recommend a fastener that will not corrode such as stainless or galvanized.

A: Personally, I would recommend Stainless Steel Screws or Decking Screws, so that there is No Oxidation; and Less Likely to Loosen or Back Out from the Hanger/Strap.. If Not using Screws, then Galvanized or Stainless Steel Nails, again to prevent Oxidation...
