According to my plumber (I'm not one), the copper pipe may be of two types (L&M), but the fittings are all the same and may be used interchangeably.

George, I'm wondering if that was a typo meaning Centigrade and not Fahrenheit. These fittings are commonly used for both cold and hot water systems in homes across the U.S. If 0 degrees Centigrade is freezing or 32 Fahrenheit that might make sense... as 212 is equal to 100 C.

Can this be used for home heating systems?

It can be , but you should use a long radius 90 ( to prevent heat loss due to friction )
