A: It's a little over a quarter inch thick and rated at 500 lbs I don't think you ever have to worry about it breaking. You should get one of these.

A: I would say that if it’s upper reading is 500lbs., then it has been built to support that amount of weight. They certainly wouldn’t make it read that high, but break at 300lbs., ...would they??
But, since I’m only 138lbs., I can only say for a fact that it supports 138lbs. just fine.
