A:  Be aware that there is no such thing as a salt free water softener. I purchased and installed this unit and the hardness level was still at 7 grains. It has since been removed and is now in the landfill.

A:  Virtually every municipal water system in the US is required to chlorinate drinking water. The system where we live has a low level of chlorine in the water, and the filter removes every trace of every kind of impurities. The water comes out like bottled water.... Miles. ahead of a water softener.

A:  Not sure what “media” you mean. There are no salts of any kind. They use a special type of catalytic process that attracts and binds excess hardness minerals. Calcium carbonate crystals are formed which are then released back into the water. These larger crystals have different characteristics than dissolved calcium. One is that they won’t attach to surfaces, says Pelican. Thus scaling is reduced.

A:  I have had the pentair system for about two years now, here in South Texas, where I use well water from our Edwards aquifer that is officially from '17 up to 100gpg'.The result is that my water is substantially less hard, but not 'soft'. In other words, water spots are left on my shower door, but they easily can be removed. They are milkier and not ingrained in my glass, like untreated water. Insofar as the temperature, of course it will freeze at 25 unless you have your water source sheltered and cold-protected. It is just a tank that all your household water runs through before it enters your house.

A:  Yang, well water has many variables. We suggest having your water tested prior to purchasing a system so that you purchase the correct system for your water configuration. The system will need to be protected from freezing weather.
