A: This bulb might be too hot for the chicks ? Depends on how high you plan to suspend it above the brooder. When I was growing up, we used infrared lamp bulbs to keep the chicks warm. This bulb produces a white light.

A: Yes - You can certainly use this bulb to keep chickens warm. Just make sure the bulb is not expose to water or the elements.
by|Apr 24, 2020
A: It does give off heat, but you'll have to confirm it's the right temperature for the chicks.

A: Yes
by|Apr 24, 2020
A: Yes! I use two for the size of my coop, but make sure you leave a window or two windows cracked open. You don’t want it hot in there. Once you turn them on you can’t turn them off. Chickens adapt to temp changes quickly. I only use them when our winter temps get down below 20 days and nights on end. If it warms up days later, DONT SHUT THEM OFF. They are now acclamated to the temp. Now you have to wait for spring.

A: BR stands for "Bulged Reflector." Typically BR bulbs provide a wide angled flood light. The number after "BR" represents the diameter of the bulb face in 1/8" increments. In this case the diameter would be 40/8 inches or 5 inch diameter.

A: From the explanation posted at https://blog.lightingsupply.com/blog/br30-led-and-br40-led-light-bulbs:
"BR refers to a bulged reflector; this shape is used to evenly spread light...."
"40" refers "to the size of the bulb in 1/8 inches."
So the diameter of a BR40 bulb is 40 1/8 inches. "Or more simply... the BR40 is 5" across."
"So when you're choosing a bulb for recessed cans, the first thing to know is the size of the cans. For general lighting, most cans are 4" or 5" or 6". For 4" cans, you cannot choose BR40 bulbs -- they're too big. For 5" cans ... a BR40 will fit with little to no space on the sides."

Q:Is there any Heat lamp light bulbs that are Quartz 120 volt ? Any that are energy efficient heat...

Answer This Question
A: We do not offer any Quartz Heat lamps. There are no LED heat lamps that I am aware of. LEDs generate very little heat when compared to an incandescent. Philips does offer a 175 watt PAR38 heat lamp (Model #145516) that uses 75 fewer watts than than the 250 watt BR40.

A: It’s only useable for heat and not for the grown light spectrum of plants. There are LED lights that replicate the sun for a grow house.

A: The lamp is designed to produce heat, but it does also produce some visible light which is what plants require. This lamp can be used as long as it does not exceed the maximum wattage of the fixture it will be installed in. For best results to enhance plant growth and health, we recommend using a plant/grow bulb.
