Answer This Question
A: Use drywall bit that has a smooth tip and as you cut take care not to force it, cut counter clockwise and it will be fine for plastic boxes.

A: tracing tip bits, looks like a round head tip.
by|May 5, 2023
A: These would work just fine for that purpose. If you look at the tip you will notice it is rounded, so it does no cutting

A: You need to use the guide point but. The end of the bit is smooth, that way it can ride around the inside of the outlet box and not cut it. They also work the same way with can lights in a ceiling.

A: Rotozip 1/8 in. Drywall Guidepoint Cutting Bits have worked well for me. I have used larger diameter bits for cutting out window and door openings but the smaller bits should be used for the electric boxes so that you don't have too big an opening around the box that the cover plate won't cover. The cut should be made on the outside of the box so that the fixtures and cover plates can be screwed on.
