A: Happy to clear things up, Matt! When applying Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating to bare concrete, the etching powder in the kit does need to be used to help etch the floor. The etching powder is citric acid-based.

A: Happy to help! Provided the previous applications are otherwise in good condition and firmly adhered to the floor, a new coat of Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating can be applied without needing to remove the existing coating. Yellowing on the surface is most likely caused by UV exposure overtime.

Q:I applied this product 4 years ago and there are places where it’s has chipped up and places where it’s showing wear due to tires. Can I use this product again and apply on top of the current garage? Basically can you put this product in top of itself?

Answer This Question
A: Great question! Yes, a new coat of Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating can be applied to help refresh the surface. While etching is not recommended to prep, you will still want to degrease and thoroughly clean the surface. Make sure any loose areas are removed, and bare areas are roughed up a little with a wire brush. To ensure adhesion with the two coats, you will either need to scuff sand the whole floor with 60/80 grit sandpaper on a pole sander or prime with Rust-Oleum Concrete and Garage Recoat Primer.

Answer This Question
A: We appreciate your interest, Stephanie! Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating is intended for use on interior concrete floors only. This product will not properly adhere to tile, and it is not suitable for exterior use. At this time, we do not have a coating that we can recommend for exterior tile countertops.

Q:Moving into a new build home. The garage floor will be new, clean concrete. If applied per instructions and allowed to dry / cure for a minimum of three days, will I be able to park a car on it? Will the finish hold up to repeated tire wear over time?

Answer This Question
A: Hi Jimm, thank you for reaching out! Once our EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating Kit has cured for a minimum of 3 days, it is ready for vehicle traffic. Even with new concrete, be sure to clean and etch the concrete to ensure proper adhesion. Air and surface temperatures must remain between 60-85°F for the epoxy to properly cure. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Answer This Question
A: Great question, Jose! If the previous coat of Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating has been down for more than 3 days, then you will need to lightly sand the surface with 180/220 grit sandpaper on a pole sander to ensure full adhesion of the new kit. Make sure to clean the surface and remove any sanding dust prior to recoating.
