Q:Shoule the wick/fitler move? It looks like it might move through the water collector to insure the wick/filter is always wet. Mine doesn't.

A:  No, the pump pushes water to the top of the filter and the water runs down the filter. One problem with "swamp coolers" is that they are not very effective in high humidity: above 60%. The system works on the principle that the water on the filter evaporates thereby cooling the air being pulled the filter. High humidity greatly hinders the evaporation process so the air isn't cooled as much as people expect. When it's 90+ deg. with high humidity, you'll be doing well if you can get a 10 degree temperature drop through the unit. You can add ice to the tank; it'll help but this isn't a replacement for a refrigeration air conditioner.

A:  Having had house sized evap coolers, the water is pumped up and dripped down the meduim. I assume that this is the way this one should work too. My problem is that the medium to too thin to provide much cooling. Also, evap coolers do not work well when dew point is above 50-55F regardless of Relative Humidity.

A:  Ours didn't move and when I looked at it more it wasn't suppose to. The water flowed in-between the two pieces. We took ours back... a no go for SW Colorado

A:  Maybe. The wet medium on this model is very thin, If your outside temp in below 80F and the enclosure is small, it might be ok. Also, no evap cooler works well when dew point is much above 50F [regardless of relative humidity]

A:  unless u want your iguana to die then no.

            by|May 3, 2023

A:  I use mine to cool off my chickens, see no reason why it would not help with the iguana, humid conditions, a little moisture should not effect it.
