Q:I cut down a Bradford pear tree. I want to keep the stump, just kill the roots from trying to sprout. Will this rot the stump or leave it solid? Do I need to cut with chainsaw or will drilling holes be enough? Just want to kill it, not rot it.

A:  It will not rot the stump but it will kill it. The stump will eventually rot if it is dead but this will not hasten the rotting.

                    A:  I used a spade bit 3/4" but any bit from 1/2" - 1" will work fine.

                        A:  You don't have to use a drill. Simply apply it to the stump--particularly around the areas where the bark meets the stump.

                          A:  I use this liquid for clearing trees. Yes, it works quite well and to make sure it works faster I drill a hole in the stump and fill the hole with the liquid. It is absorbed quickly and the tree is now dead for good.
