A:  Apply Scotts Turf Builder Halts Crabgrass Preventer before temperatures are consistently in the 80's usually after the 1st mowing and before the 3rd or 4th mowing of the grass. For best results for preventing these weeds apply when temperatures are consistently between 80°F and 70°F. If you apply too early prevention will loss its effectiveness before time frame that Fall germinating weeds will stop germinating, apply too late and will likely have at least some germination of target weed(s) that will not be affected by product.

A:  Scotts Turf Builder Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food is not registered for flower gardens or around ornamentals or mulched areas. Lawn weed control products will likely damage and/or kill flowers and ornamentals, including groundcovers.

Q:Which of your granular pre emergent products should I use in Dallas, TX now (2-14-24) on a yard that is a mixture of Raleigh and Palmetto St. Aug. to eliminate or control mostly broadleaf weeds that are starting to pop up with the 60 to 70 degree weather?

            Answer This Question

A:  For warm season grasses, such as St Augustine, Scotts Turf Builder Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food, or any other granular product with fertilizer, should not be used at this time. If applied too early (before first mowing) residual will end before crabgrass germination does. We recommend applying Halts Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer which does not have fertilizer prior to lawn being out of dormancy.

A:  The large bag is for 15,000 square feet. The small bag is for 5,000 square feet. The math should be straight forward.

A:  The math is not self explanatory. 2 bags of 5000 sq ft is cheaper than one 10000 sq ft bag.

                  Answer This Question

A:  We do not recommend using a hand-held spreader to apply a product containing a pesticide (herbicide, insecticide, fungicide, etc) unless a hand-held spreader setting is provided on the label. Applying granule pesticides with a handheld spreader can be a health concern (increased exposure to product compared to when applying with a push spreader).

                        Answer This Question

A:  Scotts Turf Builder with Halts should be applied after the 1st mowing and before the 3rd or 4th mowing of the grass. If there have been 4 consecutive days with temperatures above 80 degrees or above, then it is typically too late to apply as the crabgrass has already germinated.
