Answer This Question

A:  Hello Star, I am Colin with Simpson Strong-Tie. The L70Z framing angle is a versatile connector designed to resist forces in different directions including uplift and download. It can be installed with several different fasteners with different allowable load values. On our home page strongtie.com enter L70Z in the search field at the top left corner, click on the picture of the L angle, and scroll down to the load tables. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

A:  Hi Paul, thank you for your message. This is Ricardo with Simpson Strong-Tie. L angles could protentional work as long as the load is lite. This would need to be determined by the designer of record. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

A:  Simpson makes Strong Drive screws that are shear rated for this application. If I remember correctly they are 8 or 10 × 1 1/2 with hex drive head.

A:  SDS screws to the joists and ledger.

        by|Mar 31, 2022

A:  None. You need to use either the approved 8D connector nail or the connector screws. Usually in 1-1/2" or 3"

A:  Hi Gaston, this is Ricardo from Simpson Strong-Tie. We recommend the use of the Simpson Strong-Tie Strong-Drive SD connector screw series for L70 clip. The L70 would require (8) SD9x1-1/2" (model number SD9112). We do not recommend the use of standard wood screws as they are far too big to fit into the holes that are originally designed for nails. You can read more about the SD screw series at the following link: https://www.strongtie.com/strongdrive_exteriorwoodscrews/sd_screw/p/strong-drive-sd-connector-screw

Q:Can I use these to fasten a chair seat to its leg? Or should I be using a different corner bracket?

                  Answer This Question

A:  It would be up to the Designer to specify the appropriate connector for the specific application. We do not have a specific product designed for chair leg attachment. It is not clear how it is intended to be attached in this application. Please see the L angle product page for the allowable loads, load direction, etc.: https://www.strongtie.com/reinforcingandskewableangles_anglesandplates/l_angle/p/l-angle. Also, please feel free to contact our Engineering Support Department (800/999-5099) to discuss further. Thank you!

A:  The ML was not designed/rated for loads in the direction that a stair tread would put on it. Please see the TA Staircase Angle for a product intended for this application. Thank you!

                        Answer This Question

A:  It would depend on the application and which L vs. framing angles you are referring to. Comparing the F1 loads of the L70 listed here to the A35, the L70 has a higher capacity for wind/seismic conditions, but he A35 has a higher capacity for floor or roof conditions. Also, depending on the size of the members you are joining, the ML26Z may be an optoin. It installs with SDS screws and has a higher capacity than both the L70 and A35. Ultimately it would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify the appropriate connector based on framing layout, demand loads, local building codes, etc. Thank you!
