Prevent Corrosion

Deck-Drive DWP stainless-steel fasteners are recommended for higher-exposure environments or applications

Simpson Strong-Tie hurricane ties are designed to resist high winds and seismic forces by positively connecting trusses/rafters to the top of wall of the structure. These ties connect both solid-sawn and engineered lumber across a wide range of applications. Some hurricane tie models are available with additional corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications.
  • Great for connecting 2x deck joists on top of a perpendicular beam
  • Install in pairs on either side of the rafter/truss/joist to provide resistance to uplift and lateral forces
  • Use also for a variety of connections where 1-member crosses another
  • Made from 18-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with 8d common nails or 9 x 1-1/2 in. strong-drive SD screws

Would the strength of the connection be compromised if the attachment to the top plate is through...

Asked by Robert September 30, 2020

Answer

The engineering at Simpson is above my pay grade but I'll give it a shot. I would think it would be stronger as long as the shear strength of the fasteners would not be compromized with a soft material between fastener and plate. (softer than the plate material)

DIY Inverted Beam
Customer review from homedepot.ca logo
Perfect ties for installing an inverted laminated beam in your attic (2”x10”x16’). Easy to install on both side of your rafters without having to cut anything. Build and install your own beam, right in the attic, at a fraction of the cost.
