Q:I know it requires long fatty nails to go through the beam, but can I use short fattys to nail the bracket to the post?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello Kkrc, my name is Colin with Simpson Strong-Tie. Please accept our apologies for this delayed response. The two-piece LPC6Z post to beam cap was tested with 0.148"x3" (10d) nails into the post and beam. You cannot substitute 0.148"x1-1/2" (N10d) nails or any other fastener and still achieve our published allowable load values. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

Q:I'm using 2 LPC6z for a double 2x12 on a 6x6 post. Can we sister a third 2x12 to the existing system and use a third LPC6z without removing older connections? It would look like LPC6z-2x12-LPC6z-2x12-2x12-LPC6z

A:  Yes most definitely. Very versatile bracket. Use two per post, one turned in against one, two, or three 2 bys and another on the other side. The “extra” inch can be on the inside, outside, or split the difference with a half inch on each side.

                  Answer This Question

A:  Hi mang, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. At our home page strongtie.com, enter LPC in the Search Strong-Tie box. Click on the LPCZ Light Post Cap result. The allowable load values for the LPC4Z post cap installed in pairs are listed including the required fasteners and installation instructions. The seat of each cap is 1-1/4" so they can be installed 3" apart for the double 2x10 beam(s) on top of a 4x4 post. And note: Uplift loads do not apply to spliced conditions. spliced conditions must be detailed by the Designer to transfer tension loads between spliced members by means other than the post cap.
