The fan motor housing was broken off at the thin plastic support molds, which is apparently a very common issue with these units. This is a major issue, both with the design of the plastic support molding used to hold the fan motor assembly as well as very poor packaging. Even if the packaging was better and this unit survived shipping, the fan motor supports are still too thin and flimsy to survive much moving around.
After some online research, I see that this is a very common problem and there are lots of complaints about this same issue. For what this unit costs, they can design a better product. I will not purchase this brand again, because it is obvious they have serious design flaws and are not bothering to fix the issues their customers complain about.

I’ve only had this a couple of months, pulled it away from the wall and there was all sorts of white debri behind it and on the filter! What is this stuff? I used the bacteria product until I ran out. We do have soft water, suggestions? I would hate to have to replace the filter every 2 months.

Hi, Catmom. The white is mineral build up from the softened water. If you have an excessive amount of mineral build up in the wick due to your water, you can try placing some white distilled vinegar in your water – this will help break down some of those minerals. One teaspoon of vinegar per gallon of water is the recommended application. Economical solution to a dry house
In lieu of installing a whole house humidifier, this would be a good alternative.
Setup is very easy. Only a few simple parts to piece together. No tools required. The filter drops into the basin, attach the float, drop in the water tank and cap it off with the control unit. Has casters for easy movement
It is a relatively simple concept. The filter absorbs water, then a fan draws air through it dispensing humid air into the room.
The fan motor uses hardly any energy and is decently quiet on speed 1. Speeds 2 to 4 are on the louder side, but not the sound from the motor, rather the air movement.
Setting the humidity level is easy with a simple dial, as well as the fan speed desired.
The water tank has a one way valve so once you cap it on you can turn it over without anything spilling out. Once placed in the basin the plunger is opened and water is dispersed into the filter.
The humidistat is on the cord behind the unit and provides a real time humidity reading which is displayed on the top of the unit.
The fan turns on when the humidity is low and turns off when the humidity setting is achieved. Unit will not run when empty and display "F" to say fill. You can run through 12 gallons a day if you have very dry air and a high humidity setting. The 5.4 gallon tank is ample for most applications. I keep my setting at 60% and I fill the tank about every 3 days.
Make sure to stay up on the bacteriostat so that you do not get moldy smelling air.
They recommend replacing the filter once a year.
So far the air quality in the house has been great and no more dry skin or static electricity
This Aircare Humidifier is all it's advertised to be. LED settings for Humidity and Fan Speeds and automatic shut off when desired Humidity is reached, which is good for a smaller than 3700 Square house. Fairly easy to get set up, I had to refer to the manual a few times. I've only had my Furnace on for a couple of weeks. So far I can really tell a difference. The copper tone console is very attractive.
The humidifier seems to work regulating the humidity in the house. Filling it will take some learning (finding most convenient way to to it) but, when filled, seems to last 2-3 days. We hear it running but it is not too loud for a home unit. I would purchase it again and recommend this unit.

Waste of money
I bought this to replace an Essick humidifier that had worked well for years. This Aircare is poorly designed and poorly made. The wick hangs on a miniscule ridge that flexes because the walls of the humidifier are so flimsy. Then the wick falls off the ridge. Then, because the float level is attached to the wick, the unit will not run.
I have had to wedge the float switch to be always on, so now I never know when the unit is empty.
Should have returned it immediately, now it will just be trashed and I will try a different brand.

For a whole house humidifier, the tank is too small. I was having to fill the single tank three times a day. Aligning the tank was tricky as was aligning the float with the push rod. This must have been the result of trying to build the worst piece of junk possible. Thin flimsy crappy plastic box with leaky components. A pile of plastic crap. The humidifier works well, but has multiple design problems. There was no consideration given to noise reduction, either by reducing vibrations in the chassis or by reducing air turbulence. Even on its lowest setting it is too loud for me to occupy the same room. Secondly, the tank is too small and requires a refill every 8-12 hours even while running at low speed. have been changed inadvertently. But it does humidify an entire house.

Don't do It! This model is Worse!
While this model looks nicer than previous models, it is actually worse in almost every measurable way.
1. The float switch jams on the filter--MOST OF THE TIME THE FAN WON'T RUN, EVEN WITH PLENTY OF WATER!
2. There is only one water bottle and it is only 2.5 gallons--FILLING TAKES MUCH LONGER!
3. No more side filling--YOU HAVE TO USE THE ADAPTER HOSE TO FILL THE BOTTLE.
I wish I could buy my old version again. This one really sucks.

Actual tank size?
I am wondering what the real tank size is. It calls itself a 5.4 gal. Evaporative Humidifier. The online "product details" picture says it has a 3.5 gal. capacity. The actual water bottle only holds 2.5 gallons. So how are they coming up with these figures? Many people complain that you can't see through the bottle when filling it with water. Try putting a flashlight directly on the plastic bottle and see if that helps you see the water line.
