great looking shower
I have to say I love my new shower. I was worried when i saw the reviews (which is why I am adding mine) but it's just perfect for what I needed. I did have it professionally installed rather than do it myself. We converted from tubs to showers. Looks modern and easy to clean.

thanks for all the horrible reviews.....must be why my walls were on clearance cheap so I installed this shower in a warehouse and couldn't be happier with my custom warehouse shower for a great price.

      Almost Perfect
Couldn’t give it 5 stars because it seems just a hair short. I’m surprised it doesn’t come slightly longer than 60. It worked for me, but I could see where someone might get caught by surprise. Plan ahead on how you’ll hold the walls while drying. Our solution: curtain rods! Just grab use some curtain rods and towels/boards to apply pressure…and don’t use cheap glue (use loctite tub, I used 10 tubes of it). Will update this review if we have issues when we start using the shower.

Brace Brace Brace they come warped
If you are thinking you can just glue/go & keep rolling think again. The panels come warped so you have to brace the living heck out of them with adhesive for at least 12 hours before removing bracing w/each panel. Plan on this being your side project for at least 2-3 days. If they were not warped it would make this install very easy. You can do head on bracing as I did, or gomlaterally and screw to the wall, push too hard straight on you could pop your drywall. Does come with protective layer.

          Terrible product
I ordered this product as I thought it would save me time on the install. I read the other reviews, as they were mixed I thought perhaps there was a lot of DIY that perhaps didn't know what they were doing. After installing the walls kept popping off. No matter how much quality adhesive I used, the natural bow the material has prevents it from staying on the surface.

            Great product! However …
Great product, would have given it 10 stars out 5 if it were possible if it were not for three significant issues: 1. Product has simulated gray grout lines, problem is they no manufacture offers gray sealant to seal the corners, thus ruining what would otherwise be a perfect visual effect. 2. Built-in bullnose edge would greatly enhance this product -even if for an additional price similar to competing products. 3. Because gray sealant is not available the same product with white grout lines would be a great addition and lend its self for greater decoration options.

              Dealing with warped panels
Look at the photo before reading. The panels were bowed out of the box and kept popping off instantly no matter what the adhesive. So I cut 5 or 6 2x4's 58-3/4" for the back and some more for the sides. Back panel comes 59" assuming walls are framed exactly 60" apart and have 1/2" drywall.Check the fit on the lower back panel 1st. If the tub is not level then hold the panel level with 1 corner on the high side of the tub. Scribe with a pencil and cut with a fine blade skilsaw or a jigsaw, or someone said a sharp (new) utility knife works.I put the adhesive on the back of the lower back panel using double the adhesive (Panels come in a lower and upper piece which lap nicely). I put the lower panel on the wall. While someone held it to keep it from popping off the wall I put a 58-3/4" 2x4 across the bottom and drove a 3" torx head screw (way easier to screw than a phillips) at an angle into the corner stud on each side using a cordless impact driver (must have).angle it so it just misses the edge of the panel. Work your way up the back panel with several 2x4's. Wait a few hours for the adhesive to dry. pull off the 2x4's.Put on the side panel the same way. Dry fit the side panel before putting adhesive on the back.If the joint does not look good then hold the exposed edge plumb and scribe the edge against the back panel. Cut with a jigsaw or fine tooth skilsaw. Check the fit again. with all panels check that the tub is level. if not, hold the panel level and plumb down on the tub and scribe and cut.when putting up the side 2x4's, predrill thru the 2x4 this time. Hold the 2x4 on the wall with 1 end in the corner and predrill using 3/16" bit at an angle and aim carefully to get just into the panel corner and drill all the way thru the panel because your screw will not go thru the panel. run the side 2x4's long past the front edge of the side panels to catch a stud and patch the hole in the drywall later. Find the stud ahead of time with a studfinder or tap with your hammer.yes there is a hole at the inside corners where the panels meet but if you did a good job scribing the joint (or got lucky and the walls were already perfect) and if you do a good job aiming for the corner when you predrill for the 2x4 cleat then the clear silicone that you run down that corner joint hides it ok even though clear. yes use clear silicone.Jim

Wrong Wall measurement straight from factory!
Bought The Passage surround 60X32X72 Shower walls for a client. Started the install and framed out shower according to specs per manufacturer. All walls were 1/2" short on width straight out of the box ! Had to add to each wall to get it to fit. Not to mention this material is flimsy and less than 1/4" and not even liquid nail will hold it to any plywood or drywall. Cost us a day extra labor. Very unhappy. Don't waste your money!

Turned out beautiful, headache for contractor
These walls turned out great but they were not easy for our contractor. Unless you know what you are doing I advise you have a professional install. One of the walls was warped, they wouldnt stick and nothing comes with these walls to use for installation. Thankfully we had a contractor who knew what to do, ended up having to use some type of adjesive that he spread around like grout, he then buit a temproary brace structure out of 2X4s that forced each wall against the drywall to set and dry in place for 24 hours. Hopefully that did the trick and they will never give issues down the road as it currently looks perfect and turned out as shown in photo.

I got this for a total different purpose than it was made for. I wanted the subway tile look in my garage but easy to clean up and can be sprayed with a hose. These panel look great and were easy to install to the plywood. Make sure to use the glue made especially for acrylic panels or the glue color will bleed through the panel. They look great and are easy to clean. I’m sure they would do great as shower walls as well. The back is two pieces and each side is one separate piece.

Very nice easy to install shower wall set. This product looks just like subway tile, without all the work of installing tile. Can be installed right on top of Sheetrock so if you are converting a bathtub to also have a shower this is the ticket. Just use the correct construction adhesive to install. Trims with a good sharp scoring knife slice 3-4 times on the back side and snap. The more slices the safer your break. Thanks!

This 4 piece glue up alcove shower wall surround kit is shipped in a flat box, and it’s heavier than expected. When I first took it out of the box I noticed it is not the flimsy pieces used in other surround kits, it feels solid but still easy to handle. The instructions are easy to follow. I did have to cut the panels to get a good fit, but the material is very easy to work with. If you can cut a straight line, you can do this. You will need to purchase an instant grab waterproof adhesive and tub and tile sealant, to caulk around all the seams and edges once installation is completed. Installation for me was much easier and quicker than using tile. Once installed, this makes for a nice looking shower. Really updated my bathroom.

What I like - pairs perfectly wiht a 32x60 shower pan for an easily remodel of a bathtub based bathroom to a walk in shower. Subway tile look provides a modern, yet classic look. Install is easy if you've done solid surface or acrylic surrounds before (four sheets - two back wall and one on each end).. Cuts for plumbing are easy with drill. Scribe cuts for tight corners are smooth and easy (I used jig saw and sanders). Dark faux grout lines look real. Bullnose edge curves into drywall nicely. 3M shower shelves stick well to the walls. Will be very easy to keep clean. What I don't like - Sheets are thin and flimsy until installed. There are no overlapping seams - seams are but joint vs tongue and grove or ship lap. American Standard Passage specs indicate adhesive is included - it is not. Recommendation - Prep, prep, prep. Make sure you or your remolding crew read instructions. And take time to prep the shower. Install can be over green board, but for a few extra bucks and ease of mind, I installed over cement board. I did all my prep work on the cement board - taped seams, squared out corners, ensured walls were flat (plumb is nice to have, but flat is a must have). Use high grade silicone adhesive (I used GE).

I requested these subway shower wall panels through the Home Depot Seeds program to give a nice clean update in our home, though not to the bathtub shower stall as you can see. These panels are almost perfect in size as manufactured to cover all of the crumbling plaster wall in the kitchen where there used to be a storage cabinet. These wall panels will not only give this side alcove/basement staircase area new life, but they will also make cleaning this area so much easier. Instead of having to use a rag with harsh chemicals to strip away decades of staining and grime from the crumbling plaster walls, I'll be able to use a cloth with mild soapy water to gently wipe away anything that gets on these. The additional bonus to using these panels in this location is that there are also 2 electrical boxes with cover plates to close them off and a hole I had to drill in the wall to run network cable for a cellular communicator. I'll be able to remove the unsightly cover plates and trim a small groove for the network cable in the plaster wall to make these wall panels fit flush. In the event you are also considering using these shower panels in a similar fashion (low cost subway tile look outside of a shower stall), I want to recommend that you make sure to make any cuts to corner wall section side of your panel. That will leave a perfectly clean and straight manufacturer cut edge that won't leave any gaps when joining two separate wall panel pieces next to each other.

I recently received these shower wall panels as part of HD product review program. They arrived well packed for shipment with no damage. After looking into different options, these really are a good value. As far as shower wall covering, it's far better than tile and grout in terms of cleaning, mold and leak resistance. Lots of options/color schemes available, too. We have not installed as yet because we are tearing out the entire shower area. Replacing everything....wall board, base, faucets etc. Old house and nothing is plumb. As far as installation goes, that depends on skill level. Certainly requires basic carpentry aptitude at least. I do recommend these panels for quality, cleanliness and visual appeal. Very nice product!

The American standard Passage shower wall kit will most certainly Give your bathroom a fresh update. With the Passage Alcove Shower Wall system from American Standard, the decorative wall panels come in todays most popular patterns with this being a classic subway tile with gray grout look and is absolutely perfect as an alternative to tile and grout. Easy to install, these durable, pre-cut panels adhere securely to wall-board or over tile for lasting beauty and wipe clean with ease. With its stylish, custom-etched grout lines it provide a realistic tile look with a true feel with raised tiles and simulated grout lines. It is made of a High-quality, multi-layer acrylic that feels quite solid which can be adhered to water-resistant wall board or over tile with an approved waterproof adhesive. The panels are Pre-cut for quick and easy installation; can easily be trimmed if walls are not perfectly plumb. The kit Includes 2 side panels measuring 32 in. x 72 in., and a 2-piece back panel with a lap joint to be sealed. It’s a perfect solution option for a simple bath shower that will be much easier to clean. I cannot get my shop shower finished quick enough for this.

I'll admit, I was not sure this product was going to work for me when I received the box (I ordered it online). I don't like similar products with visible seams in the middle of the back wall. The shipping box was only 38" wide. American Standard's solution was to divide the panels horizontally for the back wall 36" up on a seam. It is a lap joint to protect moisture from getting behind the wall. (see picture) Panels are made from a hard plastic, very durable, won't be affected by moisture. Finish is very smooth to help prevent mildew. You will want to use the recommended adhesive for this job! If you use standard construction adhesive that doesn't set up for 24 hours, the product will pull away from the backing wall.

This American Standard shower passage is a great way to upgrade your shower. My old shower was not installed very well and wasn’t square or plum. Had to replace the shower pan to a 32” one as the older one was 34” deep. Had to move the back wall out two inches and make it square and plum so the panels would align correctly. When installing be sure to follow the instructions to get good adhesion to the panel and wall. A good adhesive must be used. I’m very satisfied with the look and quality of this product.

The walls look great, clean up easily, and seem durable. They definitely go up faster than tile but installation is a bit tricky. They cut more easily and cleanly than I expected with both a jigsaw and hole saws, but it's certainly vital to measure carefully and a bit stressful given the price of the panels and inability to redo any miscuts. My panels did not want to stick to the wall without some elbow grease. I recommend using more adhesive than the instructions state, especially if your walls have any deflection (large beads about 4 inches apart worked best on my somewhat wavy walls). I also found it very helpful to roll the walls, pressing hard with a flooring roller. While I believe the walls are intended for standalone showers, they worked just fine for my tub/shower combo.

I used the Passage 60 inch by 32 Inch glue up shower walls in a stylish gray subway tile as part of a complete bathroom remodel. I removed an old tub and sheet fiberglass wall combination. It turned out to be a challenge as I had to make a tile and concrete shower floor as I could not match up my floor drain to any prefab pans. It was too much trouble to break out all of the necessary concrete to redo the piping. It was more work but looks great. The well made, mildew resistant sheets were very easy to install which saved me a lot of time compared to making real tile walls with all of the grouting and tile cutting. The product is pricey and cost about the same as a good tile wall but saved a lot of time. The dimensions of the four sheets worked out perfectly and I did not have to do any cutting. Gluing it up was simple and all of my walls were plumb. Compared to other tile sheets, it is realistic due to the fact that the grout lines are textured and not flat. I would say that overall, a project like this requires advanced skills as some plumbing and other activities are required. I had to replace the old mildew resistant drywall and install Hardy Backer board to keep the walls nice and flat and install new glass sliding shower doors. I did replace the shower controls with new plumbing and strongly recommend doing that. This is a project that most people can do if they take their time.

Good product for the right situation. The product consists of four flat panels that have an embossed subway tile pattern. The panel thickness is 1/8-inches which make them a little flimsy to handle. The individual "tiles" are nominally 8-inches X 3-1/4- inches and feel okay to the touch but will not be mistaken for ceramic tile. The gray color is rich looking and complemented by bright white “grout” lines. I paired the wall panels with an American Standard Passage shower base which fit together perfectly. However, the panels can be used with other shower bases and possibly in existing showers. Installation of the panels (and base) is a multi-day process involving accurate framing, putting the shower base in place on a thin-set mortar bed, roughing-in the plumbing, allowing the bedding material to set up and installing a flat substrate such as ½” green board over the framing. (I allowed the bedding material to set-up for three days.) The panels are glued to the substrate with 8 tubes of “Waterproof Instant Grab Construction Adhesive” which are not provided. Tub and tile sealant—also not provided—are required to seal the top, the vertical corners and at the shower base. The instructions recommend painting the green board for better adhesion. The panels can be cut down if necessary, but my installation did not require trimming. Overall, this shower installation requires professionals—carpenter and plumber--or an advanced DIYer to execute correctly. Once the wall panels are in place and the adhesive sets, there is no going back to make any adjustments. The instructions say to use suction cup grips when handling the panels, which I attempted to use, but the concave grout lines prevent creating a suction. The panels come with a peel-off plastic film which I ended up leaving on for protection during installation. I did have to peel it back away from the edges and stick it back on. The film is sticky and can be re-applied but does not leave any residue to the wall panels. Be sure to read the instructions before purchasing so you know what is involved.

Please note that we want our customers to get the best adhesion possible when installing these walls, so we don’t include caulk and adhesive due to a varying shelf life that can negatively affect installation. We will absolutely take your feedback into consideration and hope you’re enjoying your new shower walls. Your American Standard Consumer Connections Team. AmericanStandard

The first thing I'd like to point out is that these wall panels are a much lighter gray than I was expecting. I was expecting a darker medium gray from the pictures online. However, in person, they are very, very light gray. (See my pictures.) I actually do really like the wall panels though. They are definitely 5 stars for ease of installation and convenience. They are easily cut to whatever size or shape you need. Its good if you have a window to work around. They would also work as a surround for a bathtub as long as you had the 72 inches of vertical space above the bathtub. Your base, whether it is a shower base, or bathtub, just needs a lip. I went ahead and put redguard and waterproofing membrane over the cement board. I figured that if people were installing this product over a tiled wall, then a bit of redguard wouldn't be a big deal. It seems to be just fine.

I'm going to install this American Standard Passages Alcove Shower Walls in a bathroom I'm remodeling. The remodel is a complete gut job so I'm a ways away from being finished. I've moved the water lines and replaced the sub-floor so far. As for these shower walls, I was expecting them to be thicker but that won't be an issue. The tile looks realistic. I doubt the average person would know the difference without a close inspection. These shower walls are definitely a time saver but for the price I can't say that you will save money. I've tiled a shower before and honestly the tile, thinset, and grout cost me less. I always have multiple projects going so installing these walls will help me finish much faster and move on to another project.

So, I have yet to install this shower wall system. However, it appears to be very well constructed for what it is. It does not look like a cheap glue up tile that I have seen used in kitchen backsplash applications. Neither does it look like an authentic tile installation, somewhere in between. I would say, if you are looking for a good looking shower wall without all the effort of tile, and better looking than a plastic shell, this would be a very good choice. We will be using it in a garage application when we do install it. It will be a dog wash/bike wash station.

These shower alcove walls are very nice! They have a textured feel to them that gives some dimension to the look, unlike the other version that has flat walls. They are made of a plastic material about 1/8th in. thick which makes them nice for fitting into smaller bathrooms. The tiles are a matte grey finish so I'm not sure how easy finishing will be. I haven't installed them yet because I want to ensure my walls are as flat as possible so I am replacing the drywall before i install them. I recommend taking the extra step making sure the walls are flat because once you glue them on they won't be coming out easily. The set comes in four pieces: two end walls and two long walls. The long wall pieces are half-lap and stack on top of each other. The end pieces have a bull-nose style bevel which gives a nice finished look, but will give away the actual depth of the material. Not an issue for me.

The American Standard Passage 32in. x 72in. 4-piece glue up alcove shower walls in gray subway tile is a beautiful alcove shower install. It has custom etched grout lines for a realistic tile look. I want to add another shower in my home and this is just what I wanted. The most important part of this project is the framing of the alcove. Be careful with the measurements and everything will fit great. Very good quality product.
