I have had this for about a year and the sun has just destroyed the device. Still works for now but don't think it'll last the winter.

Great quality video, nice added features!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The wired video doorbell by arlo is a great video doorbell with so many features! The quality of the HD video is the biggest benefit to me and you can even see who is at your door at night with the night vision feature. I also like that the doorbell has a 180 degree viewing angle because I do have a corner close to my doorbell and I can even see that area to view if a package was left there. You can pre-record a message if you aren't home, but don't want anyone to know that you aren't home because you aren't coming to your door. And if someone tries to pull out your camera, a siren is triggered to scare them off. If you want to expand your system beyond the doorbell, arlo has other products that are compatible with this doorbell too. It is a wired doorbell, but it was very easy to install for my electrician, no problems there! With so many packages being delivered to homes now, you will love the safety and extra features that the wired doorbell camera by arlo offers.

      Great product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been wanting to switch to a video camera for ages now! Finally, I broke down and got the Arlo video camera doorbell with wired connection. It was quite easy instructions to follow to install. Video is great quality, it has a 180* degree angle so it can see more than other cameras.

I purchased the Arlo video doorbell based on price and video reviews I had seen. I actually found it easy to install and set up. Thus far it has worked well; though, occasionally, it takes a while for it to connect to WiFi for live streaming. That problem may occur because I live in a 2nd floor condo with a metal door between the router and my front door. I like that it is hardwired so I don't have to worry about having to replace batteries. I really like the capabilities afforded by the Arlo Smart service (even though you have to pay for it), particularly, being able to select what you want to be detected. I live in a condo building close to a relatively busy street and don't want to be notified every time a vehicle passes by. It's been great being notified of a delivery, particularly since most delivery personnel don't ring the doorbell.

I had a previous video/security doorbell and the Arlo is superior. The installation was very straight forward and took me about an hour taking my time, installing the app and letting it guide me through the process. Basically, you need to install the power kit at the low-voltage doorbell chime located in the house, then mount the doorbell out front by the door. The kit comes with all the necessary parts, and I like the fact the kit comes with an angled bracket adapter since my door is along the side of the my home so this helps get a better image of someone coming up to the front door. The app was simple to install as was the pairing process to my home wifi, which I just scanned with my iPhone and was up and running. Overall, I am quite pleased with the doorbell, and while I have cameras around other portions of my home, it brings another layer of security for anyone coming to the front door.

I started using Arlo with the video cameras. I found they are easy to pair up and get running. They work really well and easy to view from your phone. I then found I really wanted to have a door bell. Getting a door bell allows me to see people coming up to the door. The door bell is wired. That surprised me briefly but I found that it makes sense because it can do much more than I am able to do with the regular cameras. For the money, you can't beat this equipment. I recommend getting the Arlo and add on as much as you need. You can get 2 bases if needed very reasonable. Get the doorbell and add it to the other sides like cameras and spotlight. Best deal and very clear.

The arlo video doorbell comes with everything you need to install the device on an existing wired doorbell system. You must have a 16 or 24VAC powered doorbell system or this will not work. The most difficult part of the installation was mounting the video doorbell to an existing electrical outlet box. I don’t know why, but the mounting holes in the mounting plate do NOT line up with standard electrical boxes! They made the holes in the bracket too far apart! The bottom hole had to be drilled so that the existing electrical box could still be used to mount the new doorbell on the existing electrical plate. The screws also have to be plush against the plate and even recessed a little or you don’t be able to press the doorbell into it’s mounting plate. Beyond that, installation was fairly easy. The angle mount was installed so that the video camera would point out towards the driveway and walkway a little more, so that was very helpful. The app walks you through installation and once the video doorbell is powered up, the app will walk you through connecting to your 2.4Ghz wireless network. After that, the video doorbell will complete a quick firmware update, then you can setup all the various detection and notifications. This thing does everything, records audio and video and notifies you of detection. It will try to detect animals, packages and people, but it’s not very good at it. You really do need to take some time to setup all the different options because it can get very annoying with all the notifications and the noise the speaker makes each time you press the button. Take the time to set it up just the way you want and it should be less annoying for you and your guests. Overall, it worked right out of the box and other than having to drill into the mounting plate, it wasn’t too difficult to install. Please note that it is a little thick, so if you have a thin existing doorbell mounting directly on your doorframe, this probably will not be a direct replacement. They will need to design a version that it taller, but less wide for those situations.

This wired video doorbell requires an existing powered doorbell system, 16VAC or 24VAC with a 10VA transformer. My existing doorbell is powered, but unfortunately, the Arlo video doorbell was a little too big (thick) to replace my existing doorbell button outside on the front door frame. I have an extremely narrow doorframe that borders concrete bricks, so unless the video doorbell is made extremely thin (1" or less), most video doorbells unfortunately will not fit along the frame such that the door will still be able to open without hitting the new doorbell. The Arlo comes with an angled mounting plate, but this unfortunately did not work for my situation since the mounting area of my doorframe was extremely limited. The angled mounting plate just sticks onto the existing rear mounting plate of the video doorbell, which allows a slight angle mount if you need that instead of a flush mount (like when you're installing on an adjacent wall instead of the same wall as the door). Nonetheless, I will have to wait until they create a thinner unit. The length of the unit does not matter in my case, so hopefully they will be able to develop something in the future that is perhaps a little longer so that the width can be compressed. Then it will work on the thin door frame that I have. Based on everything that came with the system, and assuming you have enough clearance to mount a wider doorbell, this video doorbell will work very well for you. Nothing beats a wired video doorbell since it is directly powered by your existing 16VAC or 24VAC electric doorbell system. If you don't have a powered system, this won't work and you'll need to purchase a battery operated version instead of this, or you should plan to install an electric doorbell system so that your video doorbell will be permanently powered. I would highly recommend that if you are installing a video doorbell of any kind, that you make sure it is wired since this will give you far greater reliability and security. The wiring is another limiting factor for me since my existing doorbell wiring goes through the existing doorframe in only the one location and it would be ideal to keep this existing location so that the wiring is not accessible after installation, making the doorbell installation secure. The good news is that even if someone tampers with the wiring after installation, the Arlo is designed to sound the siren for this as a deterrent and send you an alert. The app will walk you through installation of the power unit on your doorbell chime (typically mounted somewhere inside your house), as well as the outside video doorbell itself. Once the new doorbell is powered up, setup is easy on the smart phone app after you create your account and add your new Arlo. It can only connect to 2.4GHz wi-fi networks. I cannot comment on the quality of the night vision capabilities of this doorbell, but I assume you can see people and objects that are nearby. As with all of these products, you can purchase the subscription for additional security benefits (like storing recorded data for up to 30 days). I would highly recommend this video doorbell system if you have the space to mount it.

Camera was easy to install. Doorbell was far more difficult (Confusing instructions). Camera has repeatedly lost connection (it about 50 feet from the Air) and is mounted up in the air above the garage and hard to reach to reset anything. Support has been really poor and provided mixed messages. Now the doorbell has lost connection. The "answer the bell" feature to talk to the guest isn't ready for prime time. The software on a phone is way better than the online version, which is very clunky (Deleting past videos is not user friendly at all, subscriptions are confusing and questionable). While I am very mechanically and technically inclined, overall I am frustrated and disappointed with this system and related support. I hate to walk away from the investment, but believe that I will move to a different system.

My whole family really likes the doorbell. We at first wanted the Ring but his Arlo video doorbell is definitely worth it and will match great with the cameras we want to add which are also Arlo. It has plenty of great features and they all work great. I really like the quality of the video it has. I can actually see and recognize what I’m looking at. And the fact I can talk to the person on the other end is really cool. The sound is good and it does have like a 1 second delay but it’s no biggie. Install is really simple as long as you have a existing doorbell and it actually worked with my existing transformer with no problems. It has a initial 15 minute charge up time when first installed which at first did trick me into thinking it didn’t work but that’s why we read the instructions. It’s got motion detection and package detection which are great and come in handy. The doorbell unit actually looks really nice when installed I put it in stucco with the hardware provided. It came with a key to remove it for security and also has a tamper alert. It was a little tough adding my wife to the doorbell with me but I think that my user error. It could have also been my WiFi. One thing I definitely suggest is to have good WiFi throughout the home for it to work properly. It came with a free 3 month trial and the plans are really affordable starting at like 10 bucks. So it’s definitely a keeper and I’ll be getting a plan once I get to that point. My whole family approves of it. It’s really funny when family or someone walks up and realizes they are being recorded. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get a nice doorbell/ security. And I’ll definitely be adding to mine.

I must say extremely impressed. I had been using another brand of video doorbell which I won’t mention. I was happy with it but it’s expensive & eats up my internet bandwidth by streaming video to the cloud even when there is nothing there. This doorbell only streams when something is detected, which you can specify for. It detected animals or humans or vehicles even at night perfectly. Never a false alarm when a car drove by on the road. It was a little hard to set up, not sure if that was me or it. View is great, audio is great, it does seem to have a slight lag in letting you know something is there. Maybe my internet, I’m not sure. Software is fabulous, no bugs or issues. I’m thinking to get a camera & try that out next.

I did have trouble getting connected to it. My son tells me I have trouble with new technology. After only 3 tries I was good. Great picture. Night vision is also good.Sound is as good. App is also easy to use. Glad I got this one.

Arlo Model AVD1001-100NAS (Made in Indonesia). The hardware is fine, but the app is awkward and hard to use. First off, I hate HAVING to go on-line just to get any instructions, even installation, but no instructions come with the hardware. Installation instructions (via the downloaded app) were clear and easy to follow except in a few cases (e.g. the “Bright LED” that flashes during installation is actually the hard-to-see ring around the pushbutton). I do not yet have a base hub, so the connection is directly to my home WiFi. Unfortunately, I have fairly slow internet, so the “real-time” notifications and video identification are useless. I get notifications anywhere from 45 seconds to 2 minutes AFTER movement is detected or someone pushes the doorbell. The only real value to me is as a recording device for later review, but that isn't the fault of the unit. Video quality is great, better than expected in highest definition mode, but audio is tinny and scratchy. Motion detection is very variable – sometimes it doesn't detect people at the door and sometimes it detects a big bug flying by. I have lots of recordings of bugs. I'm still playing with the settings. The unit includes a siren which can be activated easily from the notification, but turning it back OFF requires going through settings on the app – VERY disappointing. The siren is also not terribly loud – it will startle someone at the door but certainly not alert the neighbors or anyone inside the house. I've also found the app gets logged off occasionally for no apparent reason, and apparently all notifications come through the app – I “discover” I'm logged off when someone comes to the door and I get no notification. The unit comes with a 3-month “trial” of the “Arlo Smart” package but I won't really know what's standard and what's part of the package until the trial ends, so that could be a significant downside. I haven't used other video doorbells so I have nothing to compare this to, but I'm not overly impressed.

For those concerned about country of origin, this product was manufactured in INDONESIA. Normally there is a deficit of instructions on how to install, but here there are too many, and sometimes confusing instructions. There are more "what to do if this doesn't work" then there are regular instructions. But take care as the install is easy and simple if you read the caveats carefully. The unit requires a flat base upon which to install, so if you have a wood shingle house you will need to make a leveling plate. When trying to separate the two parts of the doorbell there is a release pin which has to be giggled and forced to get the parts apart. The connection of the power kit to the existing chime box is easy, but remember to set it to active. I forgot and nothing worked. The extender base and the doorbell come with twist caps for connecting the wires. However the combination does not fit within the phone base. You will need to either make a larger hole in the wall or substitute, as I did, with metal electrical connectors that are flat. Do not try to finish the install if the doorbell will be in a sunny location. You will need to scan an activation pictograph and this can be daunting. The unit will connect to a WiFi extender, so that is a definite asset feature. You will need your mobile phone for the instructions and the account creation. Can be connected to two phones, an additional asset. Overall quite a decent product.

Doorbell camera with wide field of view detects people, packages, vehicles and animals. Its high resolution camera works at night. You download an app so that your phone receives notifications, allows communication with visitors. Installation is pretty easy, my difficulties came from not following the instructions on the app, so I recommend you look at that fully. It does require a wired doorbell to power it. You keep your existing transformer and chime, replace the button. Arlo Smart subscription is free for 3 months and only $3 a month after. It comes with an optional angled mounting bracket which I used to aim the view to where packages will be. With the subscription, you get storage of video

Installation is fairly easy. Parts are clearly marked and instructions are easy to follow. You pretty much connect everything to your existing doorbell. They give you two different chimes to choose from, a traditional or a digital one. It isn't difficult to replace your current doorbell with the video doorbell. However, we did find out that it must be on the 2G or your regular Wi-Fi setting to sync up. If you follow the instructions you will fine. So far, I haven't experienced any major difficulties with the Arlo app. There is a slight delay of the video appearing after you accept the call from the app or if you are looking out real time. I really like the ability to zoom in even during live streaming. It is easy to download and share recordings and you can also choose to receive notifications of detection of either animals, people, cars, or packages. There is a 911 feature or call a friend feature from the app. The night vision is also pretty decent. When you have someone at the door there are some preselected recordings the doorbell says like "not interested". I wish there were a few more options or we could customize our own. The doorbell speaker could be better. Sometimes your voice sounds garbled or echoed. And I wish that all users could be signed in at one time on the app. Overall, I'm pleased with the product.

At first I was skeptical about the Arlo doorbell due to the size. I know all the video doorbells are bulky but I love this thing! I could not be happier with it. The picture quality is great as well as the audio quality. Installation is very simple with the app and the 5 degree angle plate came in handy for my installation. It has been awesome for package notification and if someone does ring the doorbell and you miss the phone call to your cell phone they can leave you a message for later! I would definitely recommend the Arlo doorbell.

The installation of the Arlo Video Doorbell was very easy and only took me about 15 minutes. I used the included attachment so the doorbell angles out instead of looking straight ahead. The wide angle lens has amazing clarity down to fine detail. It has several setting for detection such as people, animals, packages and overall movement. When the doorbell or touched, it immediately rings on my phone and I can answer in real time. The person at the door does not know you are not home. This Arlo Video Doorbell is a must have gadget.

Arlo Wired Video Doorbell, Black is an excellent inexpensive surveillance system with many features. The video is excellent in the daytime and pretty good in the pitch black within 20 feet or so. The Arlo phone app is easy to use and guides you through the installation. This is a stand-alone camera and all you need is the internet with Wi-Fi. No batteries, it gets its power from the doorbell transformer. Just remove your hardwired doorbell button and hook the two wires to the camera, then hook a small module to two wires at your doorbell chime on your wall where your doorbell sound comes from. There is plenty of information and videos all over the internet. This is the easiest system I have ever used. You can look at your videos with sound from the phone app or log into your Arlo account and watch from your desktop/laptop. You can also just click on the camera and see in real-time what the camera is seeing and hearing. When you get a phone alert it even tells you if the video is an animal, vehicle, or person. I would suggest downloading the instructions from Arlo and watching/ reading about everything involved with the operation and installation. If you do that before you install it and understand it, you will be up and running in 30 minutes or less. The most important features for me were: Quality of the video and sound, the fact that I can save the videos and share them, ability to add cameras to your system, ease of installation with no wires, ease of using the app, support from Arlo if needed, reliability of the system, real-time notifications to your cell phone when something trips the motion sensor and inexpensive monthly fee for video storage. Another nice option, when someone rings the doorbell, your cell phone rings and you can answer if you want, see, and talk to the person on your cell regardless of where you are. You don’t have to pay the monthly fee if you just want to use limited options, like have it record to an Arlo base station, that you have to buy.

Clear camera view of everything that comes near my front door. The camera and door bell button assembly is stylish and easy to install. We particularly like the notifications when we get packages. Setting up was a breeze. Most of my neighbors already have this wired door bell system and together we have caught interesting things people do in the early morning hours. Awesome addition to home security systems.

Great video doorbell. This was very easy to hook up out of the box . It only took about ten minutes total. I knew that I had wired it correctly but it took about another twenty minutes to sync up, it flashed red and white until it was ready. Once it was it works perfectly. You can see and talk to whoever is at the door. It also has built in messages that you can use like not interested or too busy to get to the door. Just a warning If you have your phone notifications on it will tell you every time a car goes by or a person is walking by. Overall great product.

I don't know why I didn't get one of these systems earlier. What a terrific way to keep your home secure and gain peace of mind. The installation was fairly simple and straightforward, requiring me to add to my mechanial doorbell and then of course installing the Arlo system itself. The system was super straight forward to install with step by step instructions guiding you via the app. Once it turned on we were online and ready to go. takes some getting used to with all the features and setting involved but after 20 minutes of clicking around within the app, it does exactly what I want it to do.

Love my Arlo doorbell camera! The installation was easy and the Arlo phone app guides you each step of the process. The molding around my front door has some raised edges so I had to chisel some down to get a nice flat spot for the doorbell. Once you connect up the 2 wires the doorbell syncs up with your home WiFi network. I love the fact that the picture is square so you see more of the front porch area. I read online that most other video doorbells use a 16:9 aspect ratio which cuts off valuable viewing space. Downside there is no local storage of videos captured but they give you a 3 month trial of their cloud storage plan. After the trail it's a few dollars a month but it's worth it to store your video library for 30 days. I'm also installing 2 Arlo security cameras and they offer a bundle cloud plan for multiple cameras. It takes some adjusting the settings to get the motion sensors to send you notifications for the things you want (people at the door, package deliveries) and ignore what you don't want (cars going by on street). Lots of cool features so it's easy to dial it in to what you need.

Been thinking about a motion doorbell for a while. I decided on Arlo hardwired motion doorbell. Once I opened the box I was like hey this is a quality doorbell. Very solid weatherproof case. Also wanted it to be hardwired. I got enough batteries it the house. Easy to install was important too. And finally I wanted simple connection to my home internet. Honestly installing the hardware was easy. But connecting to the internet took a few tries. The video quality in daylight is excellant. Very clear and not choppy at all. Night time video is also very clear without the porch light on. Very happy with this video doorbell and would recommend to people shopping for a product like this.

        Has annoying flaws
I installed this device without any issue. The problem I found with this device is that it does not work with my chimer (mechanical bell type) because my chimer would ring intermittently even though no one has pressed the doorbell. You can however turn the chimer off via the power kit and can still get a ring on your phone when someone presses the doorbell. Another problem when someone rings the doorbell, and I answer the call, I get this grey interference on the camera view as detailed in the attached picture. This interference does not happen when I view the camera through live view and only happens when I answer the ring after the button on the door bell is pressed. I have also decreased the camera to the lowest resolution and the grey interference still happens. To conclude this product does not work with all chimers and there is a hardware or software flaw involving the video view and ringer that the company needs to fix.

Over all this product does exactly what is says it will do. Videos are clear and the app is easy to maneuver. Installation was extremely easy!!! My only draw back so far (I've had it 2 weeks in this post) is that when you are away from home and connected to mobile data the app runs slow! It's slow to respond to live viewing. It's also delayed by about 3-5 seconds during voice. The view is not quite as wide as I'd hoped. Keep in mind that this one is wired. Overall it's not bad. And it did help me catch my teenager trying to have company over while I was out of town!!! Worth the money just for that!!!

          Very Sensitive
The product is amazing in capturing movement of people, vehicles, trees, and a humming bird feeder swaying in the wind. The motion sensitivity is turned all the way down to 8 out of 100, and now the app is not allowing me to go lower. I tried to use the Activity Zones and it did not go off for two people. The front zone camera caught the two people walking to the door and went off as usual. I will try to go lower on the sensitivity setting, hopefully 1 out of a 100 will do the trick. But for now when the wind blows it still goes off almost every minute. Also on a calm night there is a light about 300 feet away that flashed through the trees and sets off the camera. Such a poor design... I only give it 2 stars..... Oh and connecting it to our existing ding-dong did not work. And this was a very long process ensuring power gets to the doorbell itself an finally having to disconnect the doorbell completely and order the wireless chime. I guess that is how they get you to purchase the chime. So if you want to scroll through hundreds of videos that are of nothing and have a horrible experience trying to install and connect the doorbell, this product if for you! Thanks for reading my honest and wordy review.

Product was fairly easy to install. I would give it 5 stars, but I had to purchase another Arlo device in order to save and view all footage captured by this camera. It wouldn't pair with the base station I already had.
