This is my second GH900 trimmer. The bearing went bad on the first one (completely self-destructed, see pics in my previous post). Black & Decker graciously sent me another one (thanks). Guess what? Same problem on the new one. Bearing seized up and outer race started spinning in the plastic housing. The other bearings look ok though. Also as I took it apart, there was a lot of dirt in the stator-rotor gap. Sorry B&D, not good.

Be aware of your legs
I have a collection of this edger/trimmers . I guess I have not learn the lesson that they are not a good durable tools or have little appreciation for the well being of my legs. That cord really hits like a slayer and it hurst. Buying a guaranty is worthless.

*B&D corded vs Ryobi corded
BnD
+lighter = more edging control
+less torque = more edging control
+edging wheel = nicer edge lines
+spins clockwise = more grass clippings ejected onto lawn & picked up by mower
+$69 vs $89 Ryobi
- shorter than Ryobi
BnD wins!

Good product
This black and decker is a replacement for an old one that stopped working. I like this new one because of the edger.

Junk Line Feeder
Model #GH900 - Only 4-5 months of minimal use. Already it's malfunctioning. Home Depot return policy of 90 days has passed. Now have to deal with B&D customer no service. Line spool feeder not working correctly. Uses way too much line. Using line size 0.065. B&D website support is not useful for this product. Try a different string trimmer. It's inexpensive compared to other trimmers but should last at least 2-3 years, much longer than a few months without problems. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT . DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT EVEN FOR LIGHT USE.

Toy, not tool
The trimmer is a few years old. It stopped working. Since it's out of warranty, I took it apart. As you can see, the bearing broke.
The trimmer was not used that much. I do not see this as a tool, but rather a toy. Would not recommend.

Broke
I've bought two of these weed eaters and both of them broke the same way. There's a little part that the string spool sit's on that break's off and the string just come out. I have cuts all over my legs because of it.

Pictures added
I wanted to add some pics of the worn thru cap. These caps are only lasting me 2-3 hours. At $4.97 each this is not cheap!
B&D you need to improve these caps with thicker plastic or metal bottom
Otherwise a nice weed whip

Burnt Out Three Extension Cords
I am on my 4th weedeater, last exactly just over 2 year warranty. I just thought maybe that is the time frame it should last. I have no idea why it is melting where I plug in cord on weedeater. I can smell it heating up, I could barely unplug because of overheating and melting. Only happens close to two year time frame. My first Black and Decker weedeater years ago I had no problem. I can see reading reviews I am not only on with this problem.

This trimmer is not anything like my old B&D electric trimmer....I went through 6 rolls of string plus the roll it came with....this trimmer slung debris out the edge side of the guard which cut and bruised me badly. I will not buy another one.

Works Great!
I bought this Trimmer last month and I keep falling in love with it. It is really simple to use and doesn’t take long to do my front and back yard. The only problem is the line is not that long but other than that my yard looks great.

Uses a LOT of line
Nutshell: Works great when replaced line is wound on precisely, however it uses too much and leaves bits all over the place.
I was excited about a lot of things: ease of assembly, ease of use, that the length of it was adjustable for us short folk, and that it came with a spool of string, ready to go! However, I ran out of line in about 15-20 minutes. I rewound some line on and found out quickly that being precise with winding it is VERY important. What was good enough for my old weedeater was NOT okay for this one. I carefully started over and it worked much better, however the autofeed kicks out too much line, leaving plastic string all over the ground as well as being wasteful and time-consuming to keep replacing.

Great trimmer
I purchased this yesterday and I am quite impressed. I have about 80ft in front of a newly built home that has rocks everywhere. Because of the new build and the soil being placed in front of my home I have a lot of weeds. This trimmer not only cut everything down in its path. Rocks were no match for it. It was easy to use, lightweight and cut down everything but also allowed me to move around things I wanted to keep up. I have arthritis so sometimes these trimmers are too heavy for me when you add those rechargeable batteries. My arms did not hurt after using this.

Defective by design
Don't expect to get much use out of this trimmer. The design is defective. The upper bearing assembly allows dirt and moisture to get into the upper bearing causing it to fail. This is because the upper bearing is not sealed. Skateboards have better ball bearings than this. The ball bearing is not easily replaceable unless you have a bearing puller and a bearing press handy and you think it's worth your time.
The other problem is that most of the screws holding it together are deeply recessed and the holes accumulate grass, dirt and moisture. They are difficult to clean and over time the screws will rust despite the coating.

Better than average
This is an affordable trimmer. It gets the job done decently. The edging seems to work very well (when using the sideways tilt, and the wheel helps guide it along edge of driveway, for example).
Nice that you don’t have to “bump” or “pull” cord when it breaks off (it auto-resets). However, the replacement cord spools can get costly, and no matter how many different positions I put the handle in, I can’t get it to fit comfortably to my stature (I’m 5’4”) without hunching over. Also, the cord pops out/unplugs easily, unless I wrap the cord around the handle and tie it.

Absolutely Awful
Purchased last summer. The spools come undone quickly and get caught up after it is out. Took all 3 spools to get a small residential yard, plus it would have string hit me in the face. I would never recommend any of their products and destroyed mine when I put it in the trash just so someone else would use it and have the same problem.

OLD Model: The A/C power cord old model about 8yrs was a good performer I replaced the on/off switch to keep it going longer.
NEW Model: This A/C power cord model is a great new one b/c
1. Lighter then most rechargeable models.
2. It can switch between an Edger and a Weed Eater a lot of others only as a Weed Eater @ $199
3. This was $49.99 vs the rechargeable ones that go up too $199+
4. The Line String lasted way longer, it only needed 2x's to add more line in the WHOLE back yard I edged and weeded than my older one which broke every 7 min. about 25x's to reload.
5. A/C power has the Advantage of never having to charge a battery, no buy replacement batteries, no waiting to charge up the batteries and the cost is way way less to use an A/C powered one.

This grass trimmer is garbage. I've had this about 2 months. I thought I could use it to keep down the grass in my small yard. I was wrong. I've used it about 3 times and it is now completely broken.
Out of the box it was a problem. Loaded up the included super fine string, and that string lasted all of 5 minutes. I probably trimmed an area of ~8' x 12' before all the string had been used. At the advice of the Home Depot associate that helped me, I had purchased a heavier duty string when I got this trimmer. I asked him if he was sure that the heavier one would be ok in this trimmer, as it specified the super sad, thin string it came with. He assured me that it would work just fine, that "everyone" gets the heavier gauge because the smaller ones just break or are used up so fast they are useless. After my first 5 minutes using included string, I concluded the associate must've been right and loaded up the heavier gauge. That did seem to do the trick- the trimmer actually started trimming (as opposed to whipping around the grass), and I was able to finish my yard. The next time I used the trimmer, it seemed fine. I ran out of string, reloaded, and no problem. The third time I used it, it was running, but not trimming. I had to keep readjusting the spool. Then it started making a terrible noise and and entire spool of thread would disintegrate in about 2 seconds (I am still not sure where/how that string went. The tiny pieces that I found on the ground could not possibly have added up to an entire spool). Today I tried one more time, and again, terrible noise, newly and fully replenished string disappeared in a second.
I have looked it over and the only thing I see is a piece of the plastic guard around the spool has broken off. It's not INSIDE the spool, so not sure how that would cause this kind of mess, but regardless, knowing HD, they won't allow me to return this piece of garbage because it look quite used (as happens very, very quickly with a string trimmer), and B&D is unlikely to cover the warranty because i used thicker string, even though I did so at the prompting and with the assurances of the HD associate.
Having owned another corded string trimmer in the past that worked for years, I have to assume this one is just total garbage. I would not waste my money on another one, and I suggest others avoid throwing away $50 (plus another $10 for the string), and get something that will last more than 3 uses.

Update. I like it, cuts through the tall grass and weeds like it was nothing. I used a next size up line as my new replacement and it did require a slight bump in order to feed the line. The rec size does not require bumping and auto feeds but gets used faster. Do get the extended warranty as a peace of mind. The top of the motor gets clogged with grass so not sure of durability in the long run. Picture shows just one section of the 7 I cut with 15 feet of .085 line (wich is next size line that BD does not rec but I used it anyway).

The 6.5 amp Trimmer is a very powerful machine. It never seems to run out of line. The spool holding the line can be changed in one second flat. Also, there is no air contamination due to a gas engine. You never run out of gas. Yes indeed. I am very happy with my Black and Decker Electric Trimmer.

We have had two of these puppies and the one consistency is that they go through twine like there is no tomorrow. Even the good twine, installed properly and carefully. Just spits it out as fast as a baby getting their first taste of raw brussel sprouts. When I do my front and back (average sized suburban) yards, it takes nearly two full spools to finish the job. I've probably spent more on twine since I bought this last summer than I paid for the unit. I attached a photo of a spool that I filled completely and used for MAYBE five minutes. Over half empty. Total junk. I'm giving mine away. You've been warned.
