Heats the Home, very loud
Being new to pellet stoves, we felt we did a good job researching options. What we failed to note, was how loud pellet stoves can be. This is in our home but close to sitting areas around TV and the blower fsn is very loud. Incredibly noticeable. Not the peaceful ambiance we were hoping for. Comfortbilt has great customer service, but did not mention how loud this units blower fan is.

    Awesome Heat
Pellets vs Wood Stoves. Pellets HANDS DOWN! Self Installed, not hard. Pellet stove gives good heat without getting really HOT like a wood stove. Which means SAFER. KEY POINTS 1. Keep Clean, burn pot & area, side panel 2. Burn DRY pellets 3. Starting don’t let burn pot fill with pellets . You get the match effect with the smoke when it ignites. 4.It you run it on 1 or 2 setting, get the stove burning hot on 3 or 4 first, then turn down to 1 or 2. Otherwise it might shut down due to cold temp.

      Beautiful stove with impressive output
Awful experience with my oil company last winter led me to look at installing a pellet stove. Did a lot of research and ComfortBilt seem like a solid company that treated their customers right. Decided to buy the HP-50 due to its size, appearance, and BTU output. It is late September in VT so the nights are in the low 40s already. House is two stories/1900 sqft and the heat is getting evenly distributed with the help of a fan. Very happy with this stove!

        Extremely Pleased!!
So this is my first pellet stove and after reading the reviews I bought this stove in early November 2019. I set it up and vented it myself per code thru an external wall in a room in my home that is @1100 sq. ft. and has no other heat source. I would say I am moderately skilled in home renovations and repairs to give you an idea of my skill level and I thought this install was fairly simple. That being said make sure you are well prepared prior to cutting a hole in your home and you have planned out this install thoroughly. I used a duravent double walled vent system with 3M heat resistant sealant and 3M aluminum pipe wrap tape to seal all joints. Also I did use a fresh air intake flexpipe for continuous fresh air. I know this is not necessary, only in a mobile home, but it was my preference to do it. Upon finishing the setup I loaded it with pellets ( bought at a dealer of high quality pellets locally) and started her up. Turned on without a hitch and ran beautifully. Im not gona go thru the ins and outs of the remote and different setting that are available as that is something you will have to figure out yourself but honestly its simple. The unit heats the room quickly and to a comfortable level. Its pleasing to look at and the fan in my opinion is not loud or distracting at all. I clean the unit once a week and maybe twice if I'm running it daily. Cleaning is very simple if u have a shopvac, if not... well then i imagine its not as simple. I would recommend getting one for this task if you don't have one. So in conclusion i really have nothing but good things to say about this stove. I have gone thru @30 bags of pellets so far and I VERY VERY pleased with the performance I am getting. As for longevity I can not comment but so far so good. I would highly recommend this product

I purchased this pellet stove last year and wanted to wait to write a review. This thing is awesome. I have been heating my house with a wood burning stove and this pellet stove blows the wood burning stove away. It puts out twice as much heat and it puts out a consistent heat. No more lighting a fire and waiting for the wood stove to heat up and for the fire to get going. Now I just push the power button on and in a few minutes it is putting out heat. The installation was very easy. Simply cut a hole through the wall and run the pipe through the hole. Another thing I love about it is during the beginning and end of the cold seasons I can turn this on then turn it off after the house warms up and be done with it for the day. A wood burning stove is all or nothing. One thing I do not like about it is how small the opening is on the pellet hopper. It does make it hard to dump the pellets in. It would be nice if it had a bigger opening. I find the 47 pound hopper to be big enough, but of course a bigger hopper would be nice. Once question most people have is how long does a bag a pellets last. When I use it in the morning and evening for a few hours a bag will last 2-3 days up to a week. When it is really cold and we are running it on high all day I will go through a bag a day. Sounds like a lot but when you are heating your house on just wood it is a lot cheaper. I am on propane which is very expensive in my area. The pellet stove is now the cheapest to run out of my 3 options. I like the fact that I can go to Home Depot and buy the pellets Vs. having wood delivered.

Setup was moderately simple. I ran the venting through the wall. Definitely a 2 person job getting the stove in the house. My house is approximately 1200 square feet and it is heating it very well. The control panel is simple to understand and I also found a couple of videos from Comfort Bilt that were helpful. I have only been using the stove for a couple of weeks so as to dependability I will leave that for another day.

            Nice stove
Nice looking and works very well. Installed in my unfinished basement. With insulated walls and registers in the floor in my 1000 sq ft house, it works great. The only downfall is the hopper size. But anyone with a little carpentry skills can build a bigger hopper with a chute. Nice product.

I bought this stove in May after my husband passed away. The specs looked good and the price was right. I own a 200 year old farmhouse in rural Maine. I had a wood stove but I no longer wished to or could lug wood. In late October I started the stove. It ran fine. It quickly turned cold here and the problems began. I am trying to heat an L shaped room about 900 sq ft. I have blocked off the remaining sq ft. This is a very open area, small den, dining room and kitchen with one doorway leading to a hall with a bath and laundry room. I have insulation below the flooring and in the walls. I built double layered storm windows. I prepped for the winter. The area above that doorway catches the heat and it does not go down the hall so the heat is contained in this 900 sq. ft. The stove would not go above 65*. Then it got even colder and the stove would not go above 58*. I tried many different settings trying to get more heat and finally called the seller Comfortbilt, SMG Hearth and Home. They are very nice and helpful. I spent 1.5 hours on the phone trying all different configurations and got nothing. I used a temp probe to check the air output and it read about 200*. This temp should be 400* on level 5 according to Comfortbilt. Nothing was resolved. I spent more time on the phone, nothing was resolved. There is NO technician in my area to work on this stove. So why sell it to people in my area? Why sell it to people in colder climates? I was told it's too cold, not enough insulation and to insulate my small attic and the area between my floors. I was told I should have bought a bigger stove. I was told it was the pellets. The hopper hold about 3/4 of a bag of pellets and not 40 or 55 pounds they claim. The stove needs to be cleaned daily. When you shut it down even if it's cold you MUST wait 30 minutes before it will restart. When the hopper runs out of pellets and the stove shuts down you MUST wait 30 minutes to restart. No matter what, when the stove is turned off you MUST wait 30 minutes to restart. I burn premium softwood pellets made here in Maine. It's not the pellets. Pellet company came out and took a few bags from the 6 ton I have in my yard and left me 2 other version of pellets they make. I tried 2 other types of pellets from different store and no change. I use THREE bags of pellets a day and must get up in the night to add more. The pipes in my basement in the zone my stove is froze. Had to pay a plumber to come out. In order to heat this 900 sq ft I pretty much rely on my oil and not the three bags of pellets I'm burning a day. Comfortbilt called around within a 100 mile radius to find a tech to come check out the stove. A man came and they had him on the phone for a couple hours doing the vary same things I did with them while on the phone. He never came back to finish and we joked about how it just doesn't work. No results from technician. Stove heats to 68* when it's 40* or higher, but still must be on level 5 and still burns 3 bags of pellets a day. I called Home Depot to return the stove but they have a 90 day return period. It costs about $500 plus to have this shipped back and the prep and lift for the return is more. The blower is loud. Yes you can turn it down but the stove doesn't burn as hot. This is my experience while living in a cold climate and living in a home that is not sealed as a new home. Basically, this stove cannot heat a home with a draft as it is not strong enough to heat the cold air it intakes. I am speaking of my experience and do not intend to influence others. This stove may work fine for you but it is a flop for me.

So you may notice in the questions section of this website question regarding this unit causing smoke and needing constant cleaning. Well I sent an email in to comfortbilt and literally received a phone call from Glen 30 minutes later! (If you go on you tube you'll see him in a number of helpful pellet stove tutorials). Glen was as kind as could be. He asked me a few questions and quickly identified the issue. I self installed this unit and was venting it up through the roof at approximately 18 feet high. He walked me through a perfect and easy fix with the voltage settings. Glen also gave this first time stove owner a number of tips, recommended a few pellet options (he did say the HD brand was good as well) and even said to call him anytime with questions. I can't say enough about the comfortbilt company and the stove I'm enjoying right now. It heats my entire house of 1,700 sq feet with about a bag per day in frigid New Hampshire and is sleek and modern to boot!"

I purchased this stove a couple of weeks ago. I've owned a couple of pellet stoves over the years and I must say that I like the features of this stove. It has three operational modes. Manual, temperature tracking and weekly. When I set it in weekly mode, and it gets colder in the night, I can have it come on at 1:30AM with me not having to get out of bed and then it will turn off in the morning at a set time. Out of all the modes, temperature tracking is my favorite. I can adjust the temp and leave it. Note that this stove will not turn off in the temperature tracking mode. It will stay running at minimum flame if the room temp is grater than your setting. That's fine for me. This stove has a nice deeper firebox than my last stove. The pellets stay in the box and don’t bounce out. One of the features I was looking for was low running watts to save on electricity and this stove is great for that. All pellet stoves must be cleaned out on a regular basis and I was already used to this process. I did notice after running on low for a while, it brings up the flame for a few minutes to clear out the firebox (says cleaning on the front display). My old stove was all manually operated and didn’t have this feature, so after many hours of running my older stove just wouldn’t burn as nicely. There is a little lever on the bottom of the stove and I wondered what it was for. I didn’t see it in the manual. I realized that keeping it to the full right kept the glass cleaner. I believe it directs some air flow towards the glass inside the unit. So far I think it is well made and that I made a good investment. Also, I have tried three different brands of pellets and they all burned without problems in this stove. I highly suggest reading the manual before purchasing any stove. The manual will explain things probably better than me. Thank you Comforbilt for a quality product and thank you home depot for promptly notifying me when it arrived at my store.

I previously had an old pellet stove, that had to be started manually, using gel firestarter, and this automatic starting pellet stove is tremendously better. This pellet stove is for 2,200 square feet, and I only have about 500 square feet, so it heats the whole area very easily set on low temperature. A friend of mine has a smaller stove that looks like mine, but I think this one is perfect for my situation. It greatly cuts down on my heating costs. I was using propane heat at about $300 a month before I switched to a pellet stove, and of course, the pellet stove costs only about $400 for the whole winter season, QUITE A SAVINGS. It is quiet, heats nicely, and is low maintenance. Push the ON button, set the temperature control to 3, and it starts quickly and efficiently. Then I usually set the temperature to two (for a very cold night) or set it to one for a 40 degree day. NICE! NICE! NICE!

Well built with easy install. You will want to try different brands of pellets to see what works best for you. I have a very old home so lots of air leaks and on level 1 it will keep my house pushing out 175 degrees air and 75 degrees with the outside temperature around 50 degrees. That being said make sure you read the manuel . I use the timer setting or it gets to hot. I hope this helps.

Had it about a month and so far so good. We have kept it set on the lowest setting and it gets really hot! Would be nice if the entire hopper emptied before shutting off. Pellets get stuck on the side and don't fall all the way down. Just means you have to fill it up more often.

This stove is amazing, it exceeded my expectations very happy!!! The only thing I had to do was going to change the settings on levels one and two due to the still putting out so much heat it was driving us out of our home. The settings are fully adjustable you just need the password from the manufacturer. Very easy to do. Very satisfied customer.

                      Never worked
I bought the Comforbilt HP50 about a year ago and have had problems with it from the start. The stove doesn't head my 900 sq ft family room because the flame flickers wildly. For about 20 seconds the flame is strong, then it starts dying and almost goes out completely in the bottom of the burn pot. I've had innumerable conversations with Comfortbilt tech support but they've not been able to fix this stove. I've had other pellet stoves and this one is the worst I've ever had.

I've had this stove in my 800 sq. ft. with 10 ft. high ceilings, out-building for almost 2 months now. The weather hasn't been consistently cold yet but we've had plenty of under freezing temp nights. I installed the stove myself but had help from a neighbor to position it. This stove heats the workshop within 30 minutes of starting and in an hour I'm often turning it down to 62-64 degrees, it's thermocouple is near the floor so that means the main room is 68-72 degrees. It's easy to clean, daily I just brush it out and after the 4th burn I do a good vacuuming. It does go through pellets if you run on high a lot. The end of the season cleaning looks doable, just make sure when placing the stove to leave side access so you can take off the side panels and access the ports as directed in the manual. I bought the Duravent pipe kit and fresh air intake and installation was pretty straight forward in my pole barn.

Well packaged. Above average instructions and guidance, though a bit wordy and disorganized. Worked right out of the box. Fume time was short lived but pretty strong. I wish the damper had more travel for finer adjustments. I wish it easily connected to a ground wire thermostat like a Nest. The control panel is incredibly loud and difficult to navigate.

This is a very nice pellet stove. The stove was easy to assemble and worked flawlessly during the initial startup. I only intend to use this in the MANUAL mode in my 1200 sq ft shop so I have no remarks about the other modes (weekly, thermostat, etc). I like the simplicity of On/Off with a single button or the remote and having automatic flame adjustment based on the 1-5 heating selections. Since the initial test was done when temperatures were in the 60'sF I don't have any experience with how the stove functions in very cold temps but I think it will do fine. The only con is the same as others have mentioned regarding the small opening to add pellets. I used some thick cardboard that I fit on the top of the stove to help direct pellets into the hopper and keep them from getting all over the stove. The safety switch on the lid to stop the auger when the lid is open is unnecessary but pellets can be added quickly enough when the lid is open and the stove is running that the minimal amount of time the auger is open is not an issue. The switch does not turn off the stove which I was concerned about. It only stops the auger when the lid is open. The price, quality and excellent shipping response are great.
