I bought three of these Coolaroo spring loaded retractable shades four years ago at home depot. They worked fine when I bought them - I bought them for privacy from my neighbor's above ground pool. For the last three years, the neighbors haven't used the pool so the shades were retracted hanging on the patio. The other day I went to pull them down and two of the three won't pull up again. One actually fell apart as the fabric fell off the roller. I have to toss them...

It won't last you too long, but good for the meantime. It's really thin but I needed it to protect my tankless from the sunlight(even though its outdoors, i prefer less sun) It's at the sideyard that no one goes to and won't be rolled up often at all. Needed it for the UV rays but may look for something else next time. Very easy to install if you know how to use a drill

Cheaper quality than the other ones I bought. Crappy quality never buying it from Home Depot again. One on the left is this recent and right is last year. Far better quality

These sunshades were easy to install, and have worked great so far. I have a 24x24 attached enclosed porch off the back of my house. The west wall gets a lot of afternoon sun, and has (3) 8'x3' windows on the upper part of the wall. I installed these on the outside of the wall, just above the windows. I like that they are easy to install, and should be easy to remove and store inside during the winter, to (hopefully) preserve them. The 90% UV block is great, and will hopefully prevent the carpet and furniture in my porch from aging prematurely. The height is adjustable, so I can pull them down just enough to cover the 3' window. I haven't had these down in windy conditions yet, but I'm hoping that they won't self-retract, as others have described. I think hanging it on the side of a window, vs suspended in a pergola makes a big difference in the movement of the shade. I have some Coolaroo fabric stapled to frames that I made myself for some west-facing house windows, and they tend to flap in the breeze. Though, they regularly hang 2' away from the house windows. I plan to buy more of these for other windows on my porch (particularly on the south side) to keep the sun out and hopefully keep the porch cooler.

Purchased 3 shades 9 months ago. Pulled the two 72 inch ones down around 20 times. Loved them at first, but now they do not retract. Instructions say nothing about how to fix this problem.

Material and installation is unbelievable. Allows enough sunlight through to feel like outdoors.

Light weight very easy to install

Bought this in July 2020. This worked great for what I needed it to do, keep out the sun. When it gets windy, the springs kick in action and rolls it up. Its Spring action. Which I didn't think of that when I bought it. It Also was much cheaper to buy in the store. Tried to do the pick up and was marked $30.00 higher.

Worked as promised. I purchased 4 Coolaroo shades and all of them have helped to cool down the house during the hottest time of the year.

Other than a lack of instructions with installation measurements and very little leeway in positioning brackets it is a very nice shade. The adjustable return rate is very nice. It would be nice to have a grommeted hole to attach a cord for high porch mounting.

The blinds were just right in shielding the sun from my porch and when me and the family sit on the porch. I would recommend these blinds.

Got this one on sale for $35 for the gray 8' x 6'. Install was less than 10 minutes. Only thing that is not perfect is trying to set the recoil to an acceptable tension. Otherwise we are very happy with it.

I’ve been shopping for outdoor porch shades for a Century farmhouse for a while now and love these. They are easy to install and they look great too. Can’t beat the price and the great service from Home Depot. I highly recommend this product. The only thing is that I will need to possibly get something for the bottom so it won’t blow in the wind so much, but other than that they are fantastic. I love the way they look!! :)

We get the morning sun coming in under our gazebo on one side and the other side in the afternoon. I was going to buy curtains to help block it, but I saw these and gave them a try and Im really glad I did. They are more budget friendly than curtains. Its like a third of the cost. They look neater than curtains and the sun gets blocked really well. Another reviewer mentioned they had trouble with them rolling bak up. We had an issue with one but we adjusted the tension on it per the instructions and it works perfectly now. Another issue I had was the screen blowing in the wind. I ended up buying tarp bungee cords and the Command outdoor hooks to connect them to and it works great. The bungees allow a little give and the screen doesnt blow all over the place. Im attaching a picture to help show what I did. I redommend these if you need a little help with blocking out the sun.

We used this shade to put across the west side of our vinyl pergola. We got the stone color & it looks really nice. It was a little tricky measuring to line up the brackets just right, but after adjusting the 2nd bracket, got the job done. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is because the support through the bottom of the shade is a little too flexible. When we get strong winds here in Colorado, we need to remember to put the shade up. It bends too much with the wind, even a slight wind. (We created a hook on either side to keep the shade from blowing a lot when it's down). We're going to see if we can get a small dowel to add to the pocket to add some sturdiness across the bottom, when it's down. We ordered 2 more shades to actually use across the top of our pergola that we'll just install from either side, then overlap & connect them in the middle. That is much more reasonably priced than a custom cover for which we got a quote. Hard to beat the value on these shades.

Spring to let it go up is not functioning

The shade operation is great but mounting instructions vague, depends on where you’re mounting it the video and customer service were a complete failure because all the information was for a different shade you have to be a pretty good mechanic to mount it, a lot of measurements and some good guessing and you got yourself a good looking lanai shade

are y’all crazy? i'm still waiting, after 2 or 3 tries, for my refund on this item…i never opened it since it was too big for the window. upstairs took it’s sweet time picking it up, especially since the first HD rep that set up the return didn’t hit the final button and get the process rolling - i had to call again and the second rep got it done…i got an email confirmation this time. i can only imagine that the shade is perfectly fine, since i never laid eyes on it…i sure would like for the home depot system to keep better track of transactions in flux, and keep their customers informed about progress.

spring pin plastic base broke while installing...emailed coolaroo to buy a replacement...they are not offered for sale...bummer...cheaply made with no support...will no buy again...

They fit perfect in our sun room

Easy to assemble, but once it’s up, it’s completely see through. Don’t care for the color either but this is the only option my apartment complex gives us for privacy…which basically is no privacy. I’d choose another color if privacy is what you’re looking for. Other than that it’s a great shade.
